I have a Morso Squirrel 1410 its the coal/wood version. I have a issue buring coal. Mind you I'm new to hand fired coal stoves. Any advice would be appreciated.

So issue is my coal is turning a red color and then wont burn. This seems to happen a lot. I included a picture.

I didn't know there was a coal version. Does it supply air under the coal bed? Does the manual recommend a specific type and size of coal to burn?

It has the air control below the coal bed. And yes there are 2 different versions, multi fuel and wood only. The wood only has the lower air control welded shut also has a thin baffle plate. I dont have the manual for this stove. I purchased it used.

This is the manual for the 1410

Page 14 talks about what is needed to burn coal and what type of coal to use.

This is model 1410B, which according to the manual is not a coal burner.

I have the correct coal type, and size. Also, this stove has all the correct parts to be the coal version. So apparently this stove isnt the B version. It has both the top and bottom air inlets, Shaker grate, the thick smoke baffel.

I think part of my issue is im missing the coal savers. Well I do own them they are warped beyond usability. Idk, Im new to hand fired coal.

You're new to that stove and burning coal. I would read through that manual and really get to understand about using the stove and burning coal. My grandma had several coal stoves but they were old school. Dump in the coal and it burned.

I would think they're part of the coal burning system and should be used.

I looked around the Coal inserts/fuel economizers part number 62905100

Only places I can find online that sell the parts are in the UK. But your local Morso dealer should be able to help you out. https://morsoe.com/us/where-to-buy?category=Indoor

Thanks for your input. I had a fire last night and it went well. Fire would work a lot better with the inserts so sides burn instead of turning red and clogging up the air flow
