I have a Napoleon 1402 woodburning insert and yesterday my blower stopped working.
It had tripped the breaker on the electrical circuit, and when I re-set the breaker and attempted to turn the blower on again, it made a noise that sounded like loud distortion on a stereo speaker for about a second before tripping the breaker again. Anybody have this experience before? Any thoughts on where to start the troubleshooting process? How do I test the blower fan vs. the thermostatic control?
Any thoughts on how to start investigating this problem would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Todd in MN

How old is the insert? I believe Napoleon has a 2 or 3 year warranty on the fan if that is the problem, but tripping a break would leave me to believe its shorting out somewhere. I would start by investigating the wiring. Is the blower hard wired or is there a outlet mounted inside the fireplace and the blower plugged into that?

Sounds like the armature or windings may have shorted out. Open it up and look for a fried component or motor. Use your nose too, search for an acrid electrical smell.
