Just thought I'd share a pic of our project. We are finishing our basement, and after using the fireplace all last winter and loving it, decided to make it look a little nicer. We are running a BK King Parlor.

Looks great...also nice that you're able to go straight up.

Thx! I made a little progress in the last few weeks. Now I just need to build some columns on the sides and header/crown along the top and paint.

Looks great...have you given any thought to getting a stove to go in there? ;lol

Great job on the brick! Getting a nice stove is a great excuse to fix up the basement.

OK, finally got the stove in and finish work done around it. Ended up a bit tight by the columns but still exceeds the minimun side clearance (albeit only by 3/4"). Now it just needs paint!

Also, i attached a pic of the top of the alcove. I installed a blower in the floor above and made some ductwork to the other side of the house (upstairs on the floor). Air is forced from upstairs down to the top of the alcove and blows on the top of the stove and out, then back up the stairway. The fan is almost silent. Can't wait to see how well it works.

Nice install! I am doing the something similar with blowing cold air from upstairs down through a floor vent and saw an improvement in temps upstairs by the heated air coming up the steps. I would get a fusible link air vent just incase being that close. Hart & Cooley makes them.

Looks like single wall. Did you get 18" to the back or is that wall concrete underneath?

Is the drystack easy? Would you do it again?

I love your build. It is very clean and simple. The stone does look great with how the can light hits it. Very nice work.

Thanks u guys.
The pipe is actually double wall. There's about 16" to the back wall. The rock was super easy. I just showed the guy how I wanted it done and I didn't have to do anything else! I debated for a long time whether or not to try it myself, but didn't want to have to see my poor job every time I sat by the stove.

Had our first fire of the season a few nights ago, as it was getting down into the 20's. Kids loved it.

I forgot how magic this stove is. I loaded the empty cold stove about 3/4 full of large splits and threw a piece of supercedar on top, didn't even add kindling. Fire took right off and after we all got warmed up I turned it down for the night. 26 hrs later, the combustor was still active and there were lots of coals left. I just threw in a few more splits and it was off and running again. Hard to beat that! Oh ya, and it was Quaking Aspen and a bit of Pine, not the awesome wood most of you guys get to use.
