We are in the middle of summer here in Australia and I'm missing the Stove but only a few months left and we will be burning again.

Here's my latest scrounge on my way home from work the other day.

I think i am nearly up to 5 years in front, which is my goal. I have increased my storage area by 20% and also have included an overspill area which holds 22 pallets with 3 rows per pallet.

Nice find. What species, I'm always intrigued by the wood that other continents have at their disposal.

This is some type of Softwood - probably a pine. I didn't use to bother with the softwoods as we have an abundance of Hardwood's but after burning a bit of pine last year i was very impressed and managed to get good heat and overnight burns.

5 years in front - way to go mate!

How many cords do you burn a year? When do you start / stop burning?

I think I will burn about 20 cubic metres which is about 5 1\2 cord, I think....
I will probably start just after Easter most nights and then it goes into 24 hrs over the weekends and then 24/7 in June for about 4 months.

How about you?

That's a nice mess of wood you got there. Feels weird to be looking at high summer pics in the depth of winter.

mess of wood
Your not kidding - some of the guys stacks here put mine to shame ;hm but mine is a needs bases and my land is on a bit of a slope.... always harder to stack and keep it pretty. And then you get the fall downs if you try and stack it too high and on a slope - that was 7 foot high - i was running out of room before i made my overspill (6 cords) area which is also full.....

I burn about 100 nights a year starting with a cold snap in April and last fire late September / early October. The first and last 20 or so are evening burns and interspersed with non-burning nights and the middle ~60 "cold" nights in winter get overnight burns. We don't do 24 hours - Central Coast is pretty mild and with some sun and ceiling insulation it's warm inside without a fire. I do about 2.5 to 3 cords per year.
