Not another log bed... (and what projects are you doing?)

That's what I thought when my wife suggested I build one for my daughter. I had a thread here about the last one I did (king) for us. Thought I was done.


Turned out I was wrong. lol

So.... what are all y'all working on?

I'm carving up a king size 6" latex foam mattress into a shaped aft cabin berth (it will fold in half to fit through the cabin door). I will use the remaining pcs. of foam to correct the V berth cushions that were cut improperly (not by me). And then I'll move on to the salon dinette cushions.

Latex foam is really heavy. Schlepping it aboard ought to be a real dream...

Great room! and I love those beds (looks like the occupants do, too).

Lots of work in those windows! I remember seeing Tom (This Old House) repair broken weights and there was a pretty nifty (retrofit) insulation kit he used to tighten up the windows a bit more. It was really interesting.

I love these crafts that involve local materials! In addition to face jugs, I am taking a blacksmith course. One class down, and I am ready to fork.

To continue on the original rustic theme, here is a table I recently finished... a small table to go alongside a chair, just big enough for a drink and a book. This one if for my own cabin, but currently I'm working on a couple more like this to sell.

The tabletop is oak, a piece that accidentally split off nearly flat while I was splitting firewood from a tree that I had to take down next to my cabin. I hand planed it flat. The base is mountain laurel.

Nice jugs! I take one of the leafy ones to be Begreen, but I don't dare speculate on the rest. The Mods seem touchy lately!

been working on the yard all week after work, have too many trees , planted several when we bought the house mostly shag bark maples , collecting limbs at a rapid pace (smaller ones) makes for nice cozy evenings out at the fire pit

you guys get mountain laurel that far north? stuff is amazing down here , love the twists and turns of the limbs, you caught a great piece for your table base, got me to thinkin.

Thanks... yes, mountain laurel grows as far north as Maine. It's my favorite wood to work with.

Products of my blacksmith course. Not the shih tzu. He didn't teach us the easiest way to do things, but picked methods that would teach basic skills. Lot of fun, great teacher

Nice. Did you do the spitting of the fork with a cold chisel or a different method?

Jags- thanks! flatten it, and used a rounded end chisel. This was a case where the exact way that we did it wasn't the easiest way, just to teach us to deal with weird shaped steel that resulted from the cut.
