I'm not a PE expert, but seems the soot issue is a weird one. I have to believe its related to how the offset is installed. The problem is the warm air is pulled through the interior shell of the stove body through the blowers, how is soot getting in there? I hope this will get resolved for you, PE is a top notch insert, the baffle looks ok, no sign of stress for it. Hoping for you your local PE rep can get you some help.
 
I haven’t heard anything back from the dealer yet. I highly doubt that I will. I intend to email pacific energy but figured I’d wait until after the holiday. As far as my air control once my wood is burning good it’s set almost all the way down. All the way down will usually make the fire smolder.

They’re not going to do anything about it just give a $250 credit to to reweld the cracks
 
I don't see signs of overfiring here. It is worth pursuing this issue with the factory rep.

Well Pacific energy told me a couple of months ago. You only get cracked welds when it’s being overfired. And they also said the red and orange color is a sign of the unit being overfired. All theyer going to do is just give him a credit of $250 to reweld the fire box.
 
That stove showed signs of overfiring. This one does not.

I emailed PE, and I told them that I’m not interested in doing a draft test… all I want is to fix my stove. They came back and said any competent local welder can do it using soft metal procedures.

Well of course. With a 25 ft tall chimney the probability of overdrafting (I.e. operating the stove outside of specs) is high.
For them to honor warranty, they want to know that the operation was within specified parameters. The only way to be sure (and not be dependent on a rule of thumb like flue height) is to measure draft.
Refuse that, and I would conclude the user is not operating within specs, so warranty doesn't apply.

That's not bad from PE. It's the choice of the user.
 
Buy your own magnahelic, much cheaper.

Maybe he should get a damper on the pipe. It will probably help. My chimney is 18

Being the stove is an easy breather, draft should be around 0.05-0.10" WC I'd think? If it is overdrafting with that off set box, I wouldn't think it'll be easy to get to. I've never tested an insert, but free standing stoves we would go about a foot off the stove top, drill a hole for the probe, then seal it after with a screw, touch up with black paint and of course, put the screw hole in back of pipe. And yes, you try to find the problem as well as work the solution if you're coming from PE's point of view. Best for all concerned, MFR and customer.

Your stove was clearly overfired badly. This one shows no signs of it at all

I understand that. All I’m saying is they’re going to say is. That red and orange color is overfired
Again I see no evidence of over firing in this stove. Its a crappy install for sure. But not over fired from what I see

True, now with my stove that was my fault. But now I will run it on low. So I’ll won’t have this problem again the whole time I was keeping the air control in the middle

I'd get an inexpensive Dwyers and drill the test hole in the appliance adapter to test draft. If it is within spec, say .04-.08", then I would ask for a replacement stove. The reason being, one doesn't know what other welds are suspect.

If you want to add a flue probe, the test hole can be at the front of the pipe. If not, drill at the back and close it off later with an appropriately sized bolt.

All the welds look like that, even on my new stove stove
