Pennington Nature's Heat Logs, er Pellets?-Walmart

On my first bag of two I picked up the other day. These things run in length from .125" to almost 3"! (logs). They're burning OK, but I don't want to FUBAR my auger, so I think I'm gonna burn the 2 bags and not revisit these. Previous to these I've burned some Chow and FSU. Like them both, Chow a little "cruder" with size, fines, etc., but not bad. If I try some Lowe's stuff is it Green Supreme or Green Team? Back to the Pennington; I think their lawn products are pretty darn good...pellets, not so much.

GT is a good pellet.... but with their price increase, a rip off. 350! no way. get douglas firs for that price

I tried some Penningtons from Walmart a couple of seasons ago, and the pellets were way too long.

BUT . . . when I called the company I received a full refund (I had purchased 10 bags if I remember correctly) by simply sending them a long pellet and the receipt. They were very good about it. And I was told to keep the pellets, which were actually just fine once I had my kids stomp on the bags to break them into shorter pieces. Just sayin.

I bought 4 tons here in Maine for 199.99 a ton. Great heat. I have a Harman P68.

I'm still in the 'pellet experimentation stage' so I bought 5 bags from Walmart in Northboro MA @ $5.20 each a couple of weeks ago.

Noticed the 'squak' on this site saying that these pellets were not very good.

The Walmarts around here are not so visible with pellets like elsewhere so I had to hunt around at this store to find them and they may have been from last year (but the bags were in great condition and they were under the awnings of the garden center - dry and protected).

I've got them in my stove now, second time I'm burning them, and they are small (less than 3/4") and lighter in color. My notes say I had no issues with them but they produced some black ash - but it was easy to vacuum out without any extra effort. Acceptable smell as well.

Goes to show you that no matter how well we document the properties of the pellets we buy - batch to batch variation may make this effort meaningless!

i thought i would post me experience with penningtion. burned them first year with my pellet stove. about 5 seasons ago. bought 2 tons@Wallyworld. these were so dusty that i used my frydaddy basket to sift them all winter. ended up with several 5 gallon buckets of sawdust. never bought them again.

Never tried Penningtons. I picked up some bags of Nations Choice at the HD in Auburn, MA. They burn pretty hot and no clunkers. They are quite dirty/ashy.

I've got 4 ton Okies in the garage. Saving those for the Dec. - Mar season.

I burn Penningtons when the other places are too expensive. they burn just fine in my Englander PAH.

Pennington, AWF, Nature's Choice. My list of never again, unless NOTHING else is available. Stove Chow close to that. For box store brands, Cheat River was fair and Presto very good. Just a personal opinion...

I walked around walmart yesterday looking for a scooper. I noticed a pallet of the pentingtons in the middle of the floor. I purchased 10 bags, and burned them last night. The heat was great. I had to go downstairs in the middle of the night and turn my agp stove down to low because the bedroom was too hot. Although I still favor my greene team platinum, I will use the pentingtons for now and save my ton of gtp for January weather.

Goes to show you that no matter how well we document the properties of the pellets we buy - batch to batch variation may make this effort meaningless!
