Well with the cost down to almost parity time to reconsider buying more pellets. With the furnace I use less electricity, don't need the humidifier, no cleaning no worries about running out and it appears will save dollars. Got 2 tons left and will use as supplemental to the furnaces to empty the garage. I'll miss the exercise of moving 12,000 lbs from the garage to the stove but I'll live with that. I think the pellet industry has priced themselves out of the market. Time for the moth balls.

It is nice to see the price down, however I am not convinced it's here to stay. The price of gasoline here in the Mitten has gone back up around .50c in the last week and I would imagine heating fuels will follow. I will continue to burn my corn and leave the furnace on off. Enjoy the break!

Got topped off @ $1.75 a gallon here in Northeast WI a couple of weeks back. I've heard rumors of people paying less than $1.50 around here as well. Just waiting for somebody to plug the crapper on an oil rig somewhere in the gulf. That will cause gasoline and LP to double in price.

I'm getting fuel oil delivery at 2.19 a gallon. At that price oil is slightly cheaper per btu than my barefoot pellets at 275. I'm starting to back off the stove some and fire the boiler. It's been off since the summer when I installed my geospring.

I agree pellet prices are rising disproportionally.

i just checked SIB wood pellet warehouse.
the pellets i bought last spring at $224 are now $234
that's a pretty damn small increase for peak season.

Since I locked in price last summer at $3.11, so I wouldn't be hit with over $5/gal again, I'm jealous. I would go ahead and fill up my propane tank if I had the chance at your price. At that price, I would probably turn off the St. Croix during the day and let the boiler keep it at 68 - then run the SC at night. Would still have the Harman going 24/7, since it is the only thing that heats the basement though.

It's all a commodity market. As someone said, enjoy the low prices while you have them, but put a note on your calendar for one year from today, and check back to report propane prices then. My bet is that the price will have recovered to a much higher level. It does make economic sense to use propane or fuel oil right now. It just won't last.

Oil went up over $3 a barrel Friday and gas prices went up 6 cents. With drilling slowing way down have we seen the bottom of the oil price? With the blending of corn and pellets I would have to get propain at around 90 cents or so. I topped off the tank last July for $1.49. and still holding but nothing for spare in local tank farms. Diesel fuel here is about $2.85 and gas went up yesterday to 1.91
