Stacking party?

Well it sure would be nice to have some help. I'm more than greatful for all the wood I've been able to scrounge lately but man do I hate stacking when my pile to stack is so large haha. Guess I should of stacked as I go.

On a better note, I have some pecan in the bed of the truck. Never burned it before so looking forward to the heat and a couple of pieces for the smoker.

Yep, a bit of work ahead of you there. I tend to stack as I split. Probably not the most effcient way to get it done but it does help break up the work a bit. I tried a stacking paty once...1 friend showed up and at the end of the day he said not to invite him to another party.

My friends don't come over because I will put them to work.. lol If my kids act bad I will have them stack wood or treat them to ice cream and they help me stack in return. Sometimes the neighbors kid comes by and help.

Just do like I do.......stack a little each evening, or even in the morning before you go to work. Put your iPod on, stack it for an hour here, an hour there. You'll get some excersize, enjoy some music off of your MP3 player, and it'll be done before you know it.

I tend to do the same. Little at a time, since my back won't handle more than about an hour.
Sometimes, I'll cut and split, another time I'll stack and cut, another I'll split and stack. Depends where I'm at in the process, but never for a whole day.
My wife would find me laying in the wood pile. Well, she would if she bothered to come look for me.
Crap, I'm screwed.

Cutting & splitting I pay attention to what I'm doing.
Stacking is a time to solve the worlds problems. A good relaxing time & great stress relief.
Knowing that it starts to season better when stacked motivates me, I try to stack shortly after splitting a batch.

I solved a bunch about an hour ago.
Once split into the trailer, it usually only sits overnight before stacking.
The exception was a 1/3 cord of maple that sat on the trailer all last winter.

same here, not alot of room to have piles. I will split a cord or two and then stack. If I don't the wood will crawl up my ankles where I'm working.

Don't want to handle it any more than I have to. It goes from the splitter to the U's I make from 3 pallets.

The rest of the moving is with the tractor forks. Well, other than boiler loading... but....

We cut, then split, then stack. Then comes warm weather and many other things to be doing.

When I need a break from splitting I stack for awhile, and vice versa. I don't like to let it sit too long in piles since most of what I have is oak.

I agree (not that you're an odd ball). Next to burning, stacking is my favorite part of the many jobs involved with burning wood. I mean, I enjoy all aspects, but stacking is when you can enjoy the quiet of the outdoors while doing a task that doesn't require full attention since there's no power equipment involved. Plus I love puzzles, and wood stacks are like giant jigsaw puzzles to me. Not too tight, but not too loose, and make sure it stays steady after a good hard shake test!

But I do make sure to keep it enjoyable by not having to get too far behind. More than 2 or 3 cords at once and I can end up sore for a few days from all the stooping.

This is my preferred method for sure. I less step in handling the wood, rounds are at waist height so less bending and unloading the truck is a breeze since I got my long handled cant hook. The nice thing is once it's all split it's also all stacked...job completely done expect for the tag I nail onto the stack telling me type of wood and date stacked. EZ PZ!

My kids are grown now, so I think that's one big reason I so appreciate the time I can spend doing my own thing. I enjoyed every minute I could with my kids while they were growing, but the lack of 'me' time was tough sometimes. I love the fact that I can now putter guilt-free!

There had be a lot of beer before I would show up to a stacking "party". About an hour into it my already poor stacking ability would probably fall off pretty sharply.

That has been the biggest factor in not getting 3 years ahead this year; I've got 4 ages 7,5,3,1. The older 2 come out in the field with me to scrounge

Neither of you are odd . . . either that or we all are . . . splitting and stacking are my favorite parts of working with firewood. For me it's the stress relief, the monotony and being able to see the stack grow and realize your work is paying off.

I have been to stacking parties before, but didnt know it was a stacking party until I got there... What really irks me is they dont want to come and help you stack... It all has to be done...its just part of it. Some things you like more than others...I hate to move the stacks around, but it needs to be put inside so it gets moved. Alternative is to just turn the thermostat up....and I am unwilling to go there yet. Hope you find some real friends to help you with that...

Well I was successful in finding one stacking friend last night. Took my two year old out with me for just under two hours. He loves to ride on the mower and that's what I use, with a small utitlity cart, to move the wood to the stacking area. I'd say we moved just under a cord together. It takes a little bit longer but it sure is nice to get him out so young and see him enjoying himself. Seems like Mom appreciated the little break too so it was a win-win all the way around.
