Temperature range for infrared temp guns

Just wondering what range of temperature readings I should be aiming for when looking for an infrared temp gun?

I'm considering this one:

It states it goes to 932 degrees F, is that enough? How about that price, a fair deal?

That would not be enough (temp range) for the stuff I would want to check with one.

The link doesn't work for me. I picked up a gun in Sears for $75, I think it goes up about that high. With the laser pointer is good too.

I didn't look it up, but you really don't need to know temps usually if they're over 900F. At 900F things start to glow and, if you look at your stove and see it's glowing... you don't need the thermometer to figure out if temps are within limits! As long as you don't want to measure temperatures of glowing things (like your kitchen burner, or your secondary burn tubes, or how hot are your coals) one that goes to 932F is perfect.

the manual states it only reads to 500 or so degrees, but it actually reads much higher, I have measureed as high as 1100 with mine.

It is probably too expensive for me, but I would like one to tell me how hot my molten aluminum was - on the home foundry. That would have to go to 1500 or so. I have a wired thermocouple that goes to over 2000 - have not tried that yet, but I worry it will get coated with metal and then the reading will be off.

I guess I could shoot inside the stove sometime after the cat has been active for a while, and check that?

I previously used this wired one for exactly that - inside the cat of the first catalytic stove, the Concorde Catalytic.

One day I was doing some remodeling and pulled up a piece of 100 year old southern pine flooring. I threw that into the stove and the cat started glowing like an SOB. Hit 2100 degrees that day! Wow, that is almost the melting point of iron (2400 will probably liquidfy steel/iron)

The gun was a "master cool" brand, which if anyone is a gear head around here you've probably heard that name. I'm certain they don't manufacture the gun, but I'm sure craftsman outsources too. The cost was for $38 bucks and $7 shipping I believe. I've checked some retail prices, and that seems to be a fair price. I just wanted to make sure I was getting one with an appropriate range before laying out any cash.

Sorry never heard of master cool?
Fluke makes a great one it's a tir 45 .........it's about ten grand........... Thermal Imaging is cool........ I'm still trying to convince the company to get one.

Never heard of Master Cool? They make the same gear as Robinaire.
