There's something you don't see every day

A couple of years ago I was out butchering some wood and I found a dead standing ironwood tree (eastern hop-hornbeam)

The picture speaks for itself. I keep it as far away from the wood stove as it possible in our house! fwiw, this 4 inch diameter log (about 2.5 ft?) weighs over 10 pounds....and is totally cool . Makes ya wonder HOW it happened!

if my house was "rustic" I would slab it and use it as a door handle or towel bar or something. but it is just part of my "you don't see that every day" collection!

That is a unique piece , a collectors item. I had a large beech on my property that had an 8” branch come out the side making a 90 degree and then growing back into the trunk . The whole section was about 8 ft of the trunk. Too big to do anything with.

FORE! I think I may have beat. I cut a dying white birch in my front yard a few years after moving into my house. I had a little help bucking it up and hauling brush, after everyone left I decided to cut the stump closer to the ground and this is what I found. I couldn't believe it!, I saw the white shavings from the golf ball thought it was just some birch bark. Fliped the slab off a saw the ball go rolling. Has anyone ever seen such a thing??? A literal golf ball inside a tree! The last owner was a avid golfer I found old golf balls all around my yard.

I wish I had pictures, the beech rotted and fell over hollow about 6 years ago.
