Thoughts on High Valley 1500 catalyst stove insert

Hope I posted in the correct section, so I'm getting ready to purchase a high valley 1500 catalyst stove insert and was wanting to hear you guys thoughts on it especially if you own one. Its going into a masonry chimney, also getting the 8" stainless steel insulated linker kit to go with it. I have 1550 square feet and its rated at 2000 square feet, I attached the quote so you guys can see. I'm open to suggestions so guys feel free to input your opinions thanks.

Welcome. It's odd that a stove with a 2.5 cu ft firebox would require an 8" liner. That raises the cost of the liner a bit.

I was thinking the same thing but I figured I'm no expert so if it was designed to work with 8" liner then imma go ahead and get it. I'm so anxious like a kid in a candy store I really need to toss out my wood hungry insert, just curious as to how much more efficient this unit will be

Good news, you can run this insert on a 6" liner, you just have to get the reducer from them. At 20 feet 6" will work fine.

This insert is close to mine, it will heat your house fine, you may have to run it hard on the really cold days depending on how insulated your house is.

So I bit the bullet and ordered the unit with the 8" liner, sales rep was like well although it will work with a 6" liner it was designed with 8" to maximize draft, the 6" is $200 less but the adapter is $135.00 so I said screw it and got the 8, lol he threw in a free digital moisture reader

He may or may not be but I figured just get it over with

Depends on your overall height, if this is a shorter install (15 ft) then 8" is the way to go, if you are on the taller end (20+) then 6" would work fine.

Guessing they marked up the reducer just enough to get you to not want it, the only real issue will be when you switch out the insert most are 6" but hopefully that won't be for 10+ years.

Yeah my house is single level the chimney measured 18 1/2 feet

Just to double check but you have measured to make sure an insulated 8" liner will fit? Are you doing the install yourself?

Oh yeah the chimney is 13x17, installing it myself.

I would highly recommend looking into Insulating your fireplace before you do the install and install a block off plate, you will be glad you did come winter time.

Yeah imma start an install thread when it gets here tomorrow and keep it updated. Will take plenty of pics and welcome suggestions and recommendations cause I wonna get it right cause I'll need a fire Marshall inspection for the home owners insurance

looks good. I noticed on looking at the instruction booklet that both it and the 2500 use the same catalyst. I hope it puts out some good heat for you. Hope the wood is seasoned well by the time it's needed!

I'm curious to know the burn time and high/low range adjustability.
