Tree ID please

My dad asked me to cut this tree down by the road blocking his view from his driveway. I thought it was a cherry, but i cut down a huge cherry tree before and you can pick that wood out of a pile like it was painted, the other cherry tree also had a very strong aroma when cut, split, or even moved around, this tree has no smell that's noticeable and is more white inside. I'm leaving this to the pros as nobody that i talk to even cares about wood in general lol. Thanks guys in advance. The bark and the flowers look like cherry. The leaves however, do not look like black cherry, choke cherry, or pin cherry. I'd say it's some kind of cherry - but no the kind we've got 'round these parts...

Do all cherry trees smell sweet? I've only cut down two and both you could tell as soon as the dust starts flying.

Im pretty sure its wild cherry.i have alot of them around my property.it is lighter color it will darken reddish as it drys,and does have a slight cherry smell i think.
nothing close to as dark as black cherry though.ive googled it before and pretty sure thats what it is

You said the wood is white? With no smell?
Im cutting up 2 pin cherries right now and they are extremely fragrant. Im sorry I targeted them for a cut. The wood is as dark as black cherry.
Not Pin cherry and not crabapple, crabapple is more fragrant than All of the above. Crabapple bark is loose and vertical also.
The berries look sterile like its some kind of non fruiting hybrid cross of some genetically altered species of God knows what. Lol...
So thats really helpful.
The leaves look opposite which is weird. MAD...LOL

The bark looks very cherry...plum...Prunus. I'm in NY and all of my cherries have fruited and dropped by now.
There is a variety of cherry from Asia or China that flowers but is fruitless. There was a huge amount of them that were gifted to some National Monument location here in the States as a goodwill gesture.

Also cherry stems are a deep mahogany color. Not bright green. Not opposite and not bright green.
If it was wild plum it would have really nasty 3" thorns on it.
Your tree may well be a cultivated nursery tree of unknown origin.

Looks very cherryish to me as well but you said it was blocking the driveway view so may have been planted from some aforementioned nursery hodge podge long ago as an ornamental that grew too big.

You guys are really impressing me with what i gave you and what you said, funny thing their just happens to be an old run down nursery about a half a mile from the house, so the nursery hybrid idea sounds logical. The leaves were weird pattern that's why i got a shot of stem and leaf with whatever fruit it is. I didn't think to take a picture of the inside ☺ i will go over tomorrow and take more pics of tree inside and out. Thanks guys

I don't know, but they vary widely in character. Pin Cherry is so light it's like white pine. I usually avoid using it. Black Cherry on the other hand is dense, and burns well. I love that stuff...

A vine growing up the tree explains a great deal. So the leaves and "berries" pics is a vine.
The tree could still be a cherry then. I thought the OP was gonna show splits?

Yes i all going to post split pic tomorrow, we have had a wet couple of days here so tomorrow I'm going out their. Just from cutting it I'm now leaning twards pin cherry because i thought it wasn't that dense. Until tomorrow, thanks!

This man nailed it. I knew I'd seen that before...

It was fresh in my mind since I tamed the one that was engulfing my lamp-post last weekend.

Looked at the wood pics again - definitely a Prunus species (cherry,plum...) because you can see some crazy black knot canker on the last pic. I would go with some ornamental cherry. Not pin cherry. Pin cherry (Prunus pensylvanica) has shiny, dark coppery, almost purplish bark and really large lenticels.

Thanks guys for all the info, this is my only cherry that I've got in a while, it's a little guy but cherry is just as good as oak to me. The fragrance of it just amazes me how awesome it smells. And i like getting compliments on how good my woodstove smells!
