I just ordered a Lopi Declaration. They said they are about two or three weeks out on installation.

I guess I'd better actually go build the wood shed I've been meaning to get to all summer.

Feel a little nervous. It's going to cost a total of almost $5000 for the stove and the install. And after doing the math, it's hard to call it anything but a luxury, since I don't expect to save enough money on energy for it to pay for itself for about 15 years. But here's to hoping that by November I'll be happily melting on my couch in a Tshirt and shorts while drinking an ice cold gin and tonic...

Enjoy your new stove. I'm dealing with the reality of total cost myself. Return on investment will be somewhat faster for me as my house has electric heat. First year in the house my electric bill in the North Texas summer reached $110. Last winter my most expensive bill was $295 and the house never did get comfortable.

It's $3050 for the stove itself, because I wanted one of the "fancy" faceplates. It's about $800 for pipe, about $1000 for labor. Then there's sales tax and permit/inspection fees. So it might be a little over $5000 when it's all said and done.

I've looked at a couple more stove places in the area, and it seems like $4000 - 5000 is the going rate for just about any woodburning insert. Seems freestanding stoves are less.

Congratulations on the new insert. If you need save some money, New Amsterdamn Gin is as good as Tanqueray and Beefeater at half the price. 310 bottles will save you enough to pay for the stove. I hope your liver can last long enough for the pay back.

You're right on, karl. They even have $5 off coupons on them often. Trying to get their foot in the market I guess. It's good with tonic, and cheaper here than even Tanq. So I can save the Hendricks and Sapphire for the martinis.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they will be able to install before Nevada Day. Too bad, it would have been great for the party, since inevitably the first really cold day of the year is when you're trying to have a parade and kids trick or treating and concerts and what not.

I"m right there with you buddy. I just spent nearly what you did. You know, it's all a function of wood cost. If wood is free, what's the payback? Mine is 2.5 years. I call it scrounging motivation.

I'm hoping for a decent ice storm this year.
