Back from a nice weekend in the white mountains and back at it. Cleaned out a little ash, and got the stove going. Boiler turned off. Load of ash burning about 50% open to
Heat things up

Up to -5. I think the load I just put in was #4 for the day. Great room is up to almost 70, but the back hall hasn't moved yet. Loads have been 3 black ash e/w on a mound of coals with a trench for the boost air. Can't get anymore in unless I use the shorter stuff n/s and I might as well use up the 16"+ seeing as outside work is limited to short amounts of time. Hoping the smaller loads in theory will help keep the coal pile down... Theory isn't working so well. Sun is coming around and starting to get the solar gains which will help.

Another two oddly shaped maple splits, and an oak split for now on the locust coals. Going to be a low of 14, so want to do a night reload later.
20 outside now, feels like 14, upstairs 69.
Glass has been cleaning up today 😁

Ha yup, I’m in the self cleaning oven club today too. A few spruce splits in around 4pm to get me to an overnight load.

Night time load of hardwoods are in and charring. I’ll have the ‘stat set at 3:00 and the fan around 40%. Low of 8 according to the weather app.

-2/72 Overnight load of Oak and Maple. Supposed to stay above zero tonight and have a little snow by morning. It warmed up to 10 today but didn’t feel like it with a stiff west wind. Thankfully the wind has died down, it really makes a difference on retaining heat in the cabin. I think this is my 4th load today but the others were a little smaller and burned hotter than this one.

18 outside, 70 upstairs.
Reload of red oak.
Tomorrow it'll warm up to 39, and tomorrow night 33, Thursday 43 after which the bottom drops out.

So I'll let the stove go cold tomorrow until when it cools down on Thursday. I burned a bunch of maple these last two days knowing I'd have time to get the ashes out tomorrow.

Edit, video 15 mins in. This is the setting for tonight. Flue is 500 but that's high because I've been dialing down.

Midnight reload with 3 year red oak, been loading the f400 every 3-5 hours all day and night. Will catch a break with 1 1/2 day warm up starting later today. Then back to the deep freeze (well it's cold for us anyway, probably "warm" for some of u all.)

No solar just makes most people around here unhappy; fire seems to take that edge off.

Last night’s cold start

I can’t relate since I’m off grid and rely on solar power. At least we’re slowly on the upswing for daylight hours.

Last night's meal was 2 small W pine splits topped with 4 W oak, 2 petrified R oak rounds, a split of norway and a split of sugar maples. Also 2 B locust and 1 honey.
This ''overnight'' meal was served at 2:30am.

Up this morning at 6. Dog dancing in my face to to go out. Dragon was still feasting a little. Bunch of coal and some coaled remains of resembling slits. Temps at 8am said 9 withthe real at -5*. Must have been evn colder when I walked the dog. My face was freezing and the double coated haired dog did his business quickly. Extra fur or not, he ain't no dummy. Fed a breakfast of 2 fat pine splits, a little W oak, some maple and cherry, and lastly some ash.

Are we there yet?
