Just getting home from work since Tues am, 5 Spruce are in the stove lit off yesterday mornings load the wife did. Pretty mild last night around freezing so the house was only down to 68.

So, loaded the stove this morning ready for a cold start. Mostly oak. Only had a couple faint coals left from 4pm yesterday. Was out snow blowing and my wife came out an hour or so later and said you know the stove is going right? I said no, I never lit it. It lit up on its own and was at 600 STT when I checked it. Goes to show you it doesn’t need much to light dry wood. Glad she was home! Never thought in a million years a couple faint coals would light, especially from 18+ hours from
The last fire on a tube stove.

Started the stove at 6 pm with three small silver maple splits and one small pine sliver to warm up the basement.

Now a reload of crooked red oak. 35 going down to 22 outside, 70 upstairs.

20 for the low tonight but sunny and 40 for tomorrow so I chose a load of spruce for tonight.

-10F tonight through tomorrow night. Trialed a few pieces of birch tonight that were split earlier this summer. They were nice and dry and the Jotul 602 seemed to enjoy them better than the standard spruce I give it. Temps like these have me wishing for a slightly larger firebox and a cat to actually get a burn through the night. Luckily the dinosaurs fermented some thousands of years ago so I don't have to wake up every two hours to reload a firebox :)

Last night's load is done.
36 out now, going up to 38. Upstairs 71 due to significant solar gain. Gorgeous day here.

Reload with two pine,.one red oak, and two silver maple. All thin and short, to keep things warm for the night reload.

44º this morning. I put a half-load of Doug fir in the stove. The T6 is hot enough to boil water for coffee and the house is at 71º. It will be about 50º today so I'll let this load burn out.

Well, it has been quite warm and dry here last couple days, so no fire. Today has cooled off and no sun until dusk, so lit up some trash I’ve been drying

Mostly hazel and white oak with a sliver of poplar

I let the stove go out this am and did a clean out. I took out maybe 3 gallons of ash. I’ve been doing better keeping up on the ash than previous years it feels like. Plenty of times I’ve had to do a shutdown because ash was up to the loading door. That would fill a 10 gallon ash pail. Now it’s leisurely and easier to manage.
To start the process over again I am burning some spruce tonight. Load of hardwoods before work in the morning.

The little bit from noon is done, ran as low as possible. No mini split today; 38 and bright and sunny was enough.

30 outside now going down to 23.
71 upstairs.

Reload with one split of silver maple in the lower right and the rest red oak. Bit more air between it than I like, but it is what it is.

I put in a load of hardwood chunky pieces I’ve been putting aside for a while. Average length was 12” or so. I didn’t get a Tetris load by any stretch of the imagination but still got a fair amount in because I emptied the firebox yesterday. Will see how it looks when I’m back in town tomorrow.

Oh, shoot, looks like yesterday’s didn’t post…
Here it is:

Today, rain stopped and we had sun all day, but temps have dropped to mid 40s

Sub 60 in the salon, best light up some trash to warm up

Mostly oak and hazel

Yesterday's 9.15 pm load is done.
Two small silver maple splits to get me to a proper evening reload.

Was warmer today than they had forecast; 51 instead of 44.

36 outside going down to a foggy 29.
Tomorrow some minor snow, fog, and around freezing during the day and then going down to 13. Last blast of winter it seems.

Now a reload of one spruce (lower left) and the rest mostly white, and some red oak.
Saved enough good wood for if I really needed it at the end .

Have about one load of ash and two of pine/spruce left beyond the good oak. Given that next year I will have exclusively oak and black locust, I'm keeping the little bit of lighter woods for then.

Upstairs is 74 😐.
Sunny and warm today...

Fresh load of doug fir in the stove for the night. Temp outside is 45º and dropping. It looks like this will be a clear night so it's likely to be in the 30s by morning.

Mercury outside says 9C/48F; inside is 16C/60F

Missus asked for a fire so I lit some junk up

Mostly Wht oak and Hazel with the customary chunk of Siberian Elm
Lit up with holly/poplar little guys
