I had added three smallish splits around 3 pm .after last night's 9 pm reload.

33 f outside, going down to 16. 72 upstairs

Reload with mostly white and some red oak.

Haven’t got a chance to post the last few days…worked yesterday so this was yesterday morning, this morning and tonight. Single digit lows (accuweather says 4). Looks like it might be the last one cold one for the season (low 10 tomorrow night then a warm up). Been on a kick of oak, beech, mulberry and sugar maple.

Stove is now full of spruce, I ended up being out of town 24 hours longer than expected so have a little catching up to do. It was low teens here last night and around 30 for a high today. We may get some afternoon sun to help the process along ☕️👍🏼

Maybe coldest day till next winter here in southern new england.
Same here on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Today low of 28 not expected to make 40 with a light mixed mess for later. March can be fickle, definitely not the last burn. Throwing in small loads of red oak. STT half of MRD's STT on his morning load. :)

Looks like tomorrow may be my last day of burning. Which is a good thing since im down to the left over walnut from a few years ago. Produces a ridiculous amount of ash to where it almost chokes itself out.

I’ would say I had the perfect amount of wood for this season. Just enough left to top off my dads outdoor firewood rack with the leftovers

Topped off the stove with some spruce for our overnight heating needs.

Burned a split of oak on the coals of last night's 9 pm load around 5 pm today. Reload of a piece of pitch pine and oak.

26 outside, going down to 20.
Upstairs 70.

This will be the last fire in a while, possibly the season.

Another load of spruce for today’s heat. It was upper teens last night and the overnight load was gone. Cloudy and ice storm expected during the day/evening. That sideways chunky shifted and is now resting on the door. 🤦🏻‍♂️☕️

I may be splitting my wood too thin, or more than necessary based on what I've seen in stoves here. Mine are usually more like the center two splits in Dieselhead's photos. @Dieselhead your firebox isn't as high as mine, which is why I'll bet your stove puts out more heat. Same with my sister's and BIL's replacement for their former Vermont Castings that I now have. Their Jotul wood stove's height is several inches lower and puts out a very impressive amount of heat. Same with my son's insert, a lower firebox than mine.

More winter weather here. Just got an email to consider heading home and work remote this afternoon, I'll check to see how it is at times,
no windows in the office so need to go upstairs.

Oh yeah! I keep up to about 7" as rounds and love 4-4 1/2"x8-9" half rounds or rectangular blocks. Burns much longer, but also takes longer to season. Smaller splits you can shut the air down faster.

Longer times to season on larger splits, especially hardwoods. If you do a 3 year plan on firewood in our area that should be good on larger splits as long as at least top covered.
I don’t understand your thought on firebox height, do you mean height off the floor or overall volume of the box?

It's 33 and snowing, so I added some on the coals of last night's 8.15 pm load as the minisplit would defrost often (and that is a sound I don't like).

I found a vein of white oak in what I had left. So I've been burning that the last few days. Would have been better when it was colder.... But so be it.

I do notice bigger hard coals with my white oak as compared to my red oak (of which I have much more).
Almost black locust like glowing hard, intact blocks.
See below the splits.

Noted re: seasoning. Unfortunately I must buy some of my firewood, so seasoning is key even though it's advertised as such.
I was referring to the overall volume of the firebox.

Ok looks like 2.2 vs. 4.0 cubic feet.

Finished out a load of hardwoods this morning. Low burn rate on this load went 28 hours. House at 71. Stove glass appears to have a double layer of Limo tint on it. I am refreshing the firebox with a small load of spruce.

This thread is dying out. I think everyone is tired of thinking about their stoves. Well except for those in the northwest who only used them a few times this winter 😉 still another month or so to go. 👍🏼

nah, I've been with a cold stove for 2 days now. And I long for a fire... (not enough wood tho this winter)
So I'm here, watching pics :-)

NE temps are forecasted(guessed) to go down the tubes after Friday the 13th.......MD was split with a stationary front today, southern MD had 70s, northern had 40s, we were in the middle at 59. Actually saw the sun for a couple hours. Not done burning but saving the remaining hickory for next year. Single fire this morning with red oak.

Haven’t posted in a few days…time gets away from you when you’re busy. Been burning a lot of oak lately with a little beech

I think boiler will be going off Saturday and be switching to the mini splits to top up as needed. Still having fires at least at night. Probably mornings for now too as long as it stays in the 30s and 40s.

House got down to 55F. Lit a top down around 2P so it warms up before wife gets home. Oak i'm pretty sure but i'm into a stack that got rained on so it's slowing drying out by the stove.

This stack of dead fallen is not nearly as good as the 4 year oak i was mostly burning this winter.
