Same here on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Today low of 28 not expected to make 40 with a light mixed mess for later. March can be fickle, definitely not the last burn. Throwing in small loads of red oak. STT half of MRD's STT on his morning load.Maybe coldest day till next winter here in southern new england.

Oh yeah! I keep up to about 7" as rounds and love 4-4 1/2"x8-9" half rounds or rectangular blocks. Burns much longer, but also takes longer to season. Smaller splits you can shut the air down faster.I may be splitting my wood too thin, or more than necessary based on what I've seen in stoves here. Mine are usually more like the center two splits in Dieselhead's photos.
Longer times to season on larger splits, especially hardwoods. If you do a 3 year plan on firewood in our area that should be good on larger splits as long as at least top covered.I may be splitting my wood too thin, or more than necessary based on what I've seen in stoves here. Same with my sister's and BIL's replacement for their former Vermont Castings that I now have. Their Jotul wood stove's height is several inches lower and puts out a very impressive amount of heat. Same with my son's insert, a lower firebox than mine.
More winter weather here. Just got an email to consider heading home and work remote this afternoon, I'll check to see how it is at times,
no windows in the office so need to go upstairs.
Noted re: seasoning. Unfortunately I must buy some of my firewood, so seasoning is key even though it's advertised as such.Longer times to season on larger splits, especially hardwoods. I don’t understand your thought on firebox height, do you mean height off the floor or overall volume of the box?
Ok looks like 2.2 vs. 4.0 cubic feet.Noted re: seasoning. Unfortunately I must buy some of my firewood, so seasoning is key even though it's advertised as such.
I was referring to the overall volume of the firebox.
