Load of aspen and black ash going, house is comfy.

Still snowing and starting to blow a bit here. Hard to tell exactly how much we have but guessing in the 6-8" range.

Seeing forecasts of 6-12", 10-18" and 2-3' for Saturday night into Monday depending on where I look... Ground is getting pretty soft so moving snow is going to be a pain.

Sounds a lot like what I just went through! Good luck! A lot of snow for mid March!

End of the day and we need a fire…no sun today, rained pretty much all day…probably coming down 50% of the time. Plus, need to roast some chestnuts!

Mostly oak kindled with hazel
And my customary chunk of elm

Looks like we got one final cold snap in upstate NY. I am trying to finish out all the box elder in my pile so it is not wasting space anymore. Other than that, I have some ash, maple and some marginally seasoned cherry (it was alive last April) that I would just as well let sit until October when I fire it up again.

I just reloaded here with pitch pine to carry me partly through the night. Colder here at 37 than predicted and going down a bit before it gets above 40 around 11 pm. Tomorrow 47 and sunny.

Was taking out kitchen cabinets today so let house get down to 55f-57f range. Finished up for today so lit a N/S, E/W, N/S, E/W Top down fire of Oak running E/W and Locust chunks running N/S.

Small second load of aspen and black ash went in a little while ago. Going down to 7 tonight.

Today's snow ended up between 10-12" and was wet and heavy and a pain in the butt with the soft ground. Hopefully will firm up with the cold before the big one hits. Saturday night to Monday morning forecast is not improving...

Half spruce/half oak and hard maple tonight. It’s pretty chilly out with the wind. I guess tomorrow is supposed to be pretty windy as well.

Hoping your trees hold up better than this area's did with the last 12-16" wet sticky snow. The ground was free of frost and soft too. Lots of root pull outs on softwoods and cherries. Oaks and hickory's held ok.

Haven't seen any tree damage. We had one 3 years ago (I think) where we lost the top half of 40-50 pines. I think there's still frost in the ground as we get it deep here, but the top 4-6" I would guess was soft. It might be solid again now after last night.

4 degrees, really nice coals this morning from a big white ash round that was on the bottom of last nights load. Firing them up a little and a load of aspen and black ash will go in shortly.

It was mostly sunny today, wind finally died down

RealFeel says 5C/41F
Overnight low is predicted at -2C/ 28F
It was 14C/57F in the salon/lounge/LR
And burning junk in the Panadero delivers beautiful, free heat

Plus chestnuts on the docket

Mostly Wht oak and Hazel with a split of Siberian Elm and a little chunk of poplar

Chestnuts on last Wednesday’s fire

I finished off the pallets of mystery wood today, now I’m into a pallet of red maple and hemlock that I cut and stacked about 18 months ago. I brought a little ash and hickory in too, just in case we get a real cold snap. I’ll use it sparingly.

I took out ashes.
It has now cold dark space inside.

I'll be traveling this week. I'll do a hot fire some time after that to crisp up the creosote and brush it out.

Burned some scraps this morning and some cut offs during the day. Was in the low 40s but extremely windy. Made it feel much colder.

Oak, beech, and mulberry tonight (second photo ). Lows in the 20s and very windy.

I just added a mix of hard and softwood for tonight’s overnight fire. There was a little bit of coals from last night that should light it off eventually.

27/74 woke up to a dusting of snow. Forecast changed from 8-12” to 1-3” snow today. I’m liking that but I feel for the areas south and east of me that may see feet of snow! Gonna get cold next couple days then a nice warm up mid week. I will continue full loads of oak and maple every 12 hours for the next few days.

8 pieces of sugar maple branch around 4” diameter in this morning on the way out the door for work. It got into the 20s last night and will be cloudy and low 40s today.

Didn’t get a pic when I restarted this morning, but came out to a relatively cold stove with STT of 140. I dropped medium Amazon box full of twigs that I picked up in the yard yesterday with two pieces of hemlock to get it going. Now she has an ugly twisted ash and maple on top of her.

Inside 62, outside 38, STT at 520, CAT at 1081 and ramping.
