Oak, beech and a split of mulberry tonight
Wish I had more high quality hardwoods like that. When it gets really cold overnight I get 1 or 2 of them out of my stash to add to the birch and cherry. For only "kinda cold" nights I grab a chunk from my diminishing white ash pile. Black ash is plentiful but rather disappointing. Mostly burn it with aspen.

This is what I have in my current rotation, so I’m using it regardless of how cold it is lol. But yes, I am fortunate to have nice hardwoods like this to use. Though, not much beech left.

Should last me till I get up tomorrow, and I’ll probably skip fire tomorrow am as it’s supposed to reach 50+ tomorrow.

We've been enjoying 70s for the last few weeks and just lit the rock back up. High winds across the last 24 hours and the tall end of the mess you guys up east are in for hit at 3am today. 2 inches of rain and the temps are dropping like a rock now headed into the 20s.

Last week I looked at the nubs of the stacks I had on the porch and decided to leave it for a bit longer and glad I did.

Pine for the warmup then into the beech and oak outside the bedroom door.

I think our high today was 14. Down to 10 now with a forecast low of -1. About 6:30 I did a third load and threw 6 small to medium splits of aspen in to get a little burst of heat before the overnight load. Will be the typical cherry, birch and white ash with one of the 2 remaining hickory splits.

I have some oak timbers I'm going to cut up for firewood if necessary. They've been in the garages for about 10 years so should be good to go. Next winter I have a little oak, mulberry and sugar maple that should be ready for the cold nights. Will go scope out the town brush pile for more good stuff if the snow ever melts. Best I have on the property is cherry and birch, which is OK but not particularly long burning.

I dug some 48 hour old coals out of the ash bed to get tonight’s load going. Gotta love sugar maple and hickory. It was cold Sunday night, had a fire. Warm and rain yesterday, then chilly/windy but sunny today so haven’t had a need for a fire. Tonight low 20s so we’re back at it.

It’s not cold here…currently RealFeel is 42…wind howling all day and getting worse after dusk.

Still, it’s mid50s inside and my cheapest heat source is wood

Just lit up White Oak/Siberian Elm/ Hazel

Yesterday I had a piece of oak which was a bit high moisture, hence the blackened corner today

I didn’t post yesterday’s, here it is
Mostly oak and hazel and chunk of elm…This load burned about 6hrs, I had noticed I hadn’t been able to shut down air intake enough. The fire tape on the window seal across the top had crept up and air was leaking in. I adjusted (for now) and choking the intake is working much better
