I've been trying to get a dealer to set me up with an OAK to no avail. No one wants my money I guess. So i've been doing some research on possibly doing it myself.
I took apart the whole stove this weekend for a cleaning. Since my exhaust piping sucks (thanks to my orig dealer who I didn't call, by the way, because I despise them with a passion after all the crap i went through...) 4 hours later, I got the whole thing put back together, re-sealed with 800* rtv, and frnakly, my stove has never run better or hotter. I most definitely had an exhaust leak before. The volume of hot air coming out is noticably hotter and more pressure to move my off ceiling fan 15 feet away.

Anyway, I'm beginning to think my stove doesn't really accept TRUE outside air.
There's a 2" inlet pipe, but it doesn't actually connect to anything. It seems to just end about 8" away from the intake area near the ignitor. Does this pipe just 'rest' there, and bring cold outside air 'kinda close' to the intake area, where the hope is it will suck in air from the pipe instead of the room?

I've opened up my fireplace clean-out chute, and also unplugged a vent to my lower level in an attempt to bring in air from that level (that i never use -- it's a 2nd living space that i have some gym equipment/etc in) instead of drafting in on the main living floor.

The manual seems to just end up at this pipe too.

So, here's a few pics. (Yes, these were taken prior to cleaning, so excuse the dust)

What am I missing here? can i really get outside air into this beast, or am i just wasting my time getting outside air close to it? In the last pic, you can see the ignitor on the back wall, and the actual intake into the stove's burn pot on either side of it (right side is missing from the image).

Do i need something that goes from this 2" port to the ignitor area, and then the generic 2" pipe for the oak?
or, is it not capable of a true OA connection?

At the end of the day, I have a happy burning stove. But it's a bit drafty in the living space some times, so i think i want to try the OAK. But only if it's a closed system.

That is one of those half baked OAK setups.

You'd have to fashion a shroud setup to enclose that area from the rectangle to the air intake.

:( yeah, it looks that way. I'm trying to find out if there's a part number or something form lennox to get that connection from the pipe to the intake.

How bout a nice piece of 2" flex pipe? Is it 2" round on both sides that need connecting?

do you think the stove is more likely to pull from the outside from the nearby open inlet or depresurize the house and suck it through cracks around a window?

Im not familiar with your stove,.. could there be a piece of pipe missing from that 2" collar to the burn pot base ???,... I mean why even have that collar there ??

no. look at the last pic in the first post. at the very 'back' of the pic, top in the picture, you can see its basically a rectangle. Then the ignitor at the top right corner of the pic. the other side of the ignitor has the same rectangle for the other 'bank'. So, i'd need to find something that won't melt next to the ignitor like that, is 2" to double rectangle square, and fit it in amongst all the electronics. :(

i'm no thermodynamics wizard.... i imagine the room air is easier to get at. the 'suction' wouldn't be enough to pull in air through a long pipe up my chimney and out, or even if i do decide to break brick and stick it out the back. But i'm not sure i can do that due to code, as my deck is there, and it has an overhang of a couple feet due to it's a wrap around.

the left slider is the level the stove is on... deck height basically. So i don't think i can legally go out that straight back. it if back fired, it could be bad. i don't know. i will have to check with town code.

if a 2" piece of flex pipe fits into the rectangle then you're golden,.. zip tie wires out of the way

Ahhhh, I see. If you cannot find the correct part maybe try an HVAC place and see if they can whip something up. Have you tried poking around in HD and see if there's a rectangular to round adapter you can make work? Tin snips, couple pop rivets, high temp RTV....done....maybe.

I'm not very handy. I'm borderline retarded when it comes to stuff like this. :/

Don't ask because the answer isn't likely to make any sense either and likely goes along the lines of well if an OAK is required for a mobile home installation we best put something on the stove for it to be attached to, something like that or we can have a separate extra cost item like the Quad Castile that we can charge extra special for..

ah yes,.. marketing strategy at best,... (had to oversee my commonsense)

You are missing a piece of rectangle duct that go in there that also has a damper in it. Probably take some measurements to a sheet metal shop to make you one. Some simple with a handle that slides back and forth. I am at work now but i will try ti post a pic tomorrow morning .

thanks, Steve, i appreciate it. I emailed lennox to see if there is a part number to order. If one exists, I have no problem buying it.

I would think a piece of rectangular raingutter downspout could be fashioned to fit. Just re-bend the one side so it is circular again and leave the other side square.

I'm on the phone with lennox now.... they say this shroud piece should have come with my stove in the box and that its not a part number to buy by itself as its part of the stove. on hold while we talks to managment about what we can do.

so, once agian, my dealer has screwed me. I'm going to try to find some time this weekend to go down there and be THAT customer. I've so had it with this place.

steve hooked me up with a picture of what it should look like so at least i know what i need now.

I's just love it when a customer finds out he has been given a reaming. You know the fan and the stinky stuff is going to be busy.

Good luck.

Use steel toed boots, hit'em where it hurts.

he's reaching out to the mfg'er of the stove (the actually builder) to see if they can get me that part, but there's no part number for it and it's not labaled for individual sale. So, at least Lennox support has been good. Let's see if they can get me update next week with some info.

if anyone else has a winslow pi40 and isn't using their outside air kit and wants to sell me their shroud, i'll buy it off you. seriously.

If "it's part of the stove" and it's missing, they owe you a whole new stove. Period, full stop. Hit them with that next time you talk to them, and DO NOT BACK DOWN.

Yea,... thats just messed up.!!,... who pays for the time/labor/gas to get parts/aggravation/heat loss,... for all this ???,... you didnt get what you paid for bottom line...

The New stove. I don't know :)

But that piece. Absolutely. You deserve it. You paid for the damn thing?

If they dont give it to you? Then some cheap flashing from Home Cheapo, Tin snips, and some High temp silicone will do the trick.

If i could lift 300+ lbs myself, this thing would have been shot through the window tonight. ugh. So angry with this thing again. It's like a supermodel. Keep putting up with all her bull$hit because she's so damnhot. lol
