My grandpa used to drink Hamms and Strohs. When I am out and am lucky enough to spot either one, I buy them if only for that reason alone. Not the best beer in the world, but the nostalgia is worth it.

A lot of manufacturers would like to develope brand loyalty. Wood stove manufacturers are in a somewhat unique position where they can literally accomplish that. Funny they don't put initials in strategic places to make it permanent.
I rarely used gloves with the Castine front loading door. I will get almost elbow deep into the F600 using the side loading door if I am loading splits N/S.
Been bit by the reburn tubes at the top of my Northstar a couple times when I'm playing tetris in there. Last time I reloaded on a hot bed of coals a little too slowly, the wood lit off before I was done loading and I lost most of the hair off my fingers and wrists. Smells awesome :/
Now that I'm closing the damper by hand have to be careful. Not stove related but I was prepping an evaporator replacement and while brazing a big BOOM, small leak, my hair burned off, my shoes and pants caught fire, tile floor melted til I shut the tanks off.
I'm probably due for a good branding. Hasn't happened in two years. Scar finally went away from the first one though ...
Only when someone said to get those cheap-o Harbor Freight welders gloves for fraction of the cost of other gloves. Yeah right, now some 5+ yrs. later and I can still see the scar on the forearm "underbelly" (that's a word btw)

Yes. 30 years ago. On my wrist. Still have a slight scar. So I now wear gauntlet gloves when putting in wood. Ironically, I no longer have the stove.

When I first got the Hampton HI300 insert, I wasn't used to the fact that the door only opened 90 degrees. I think the door might be considered a 'fancy' design element.

I read this thread yesterday, then proceeded to tag the cat bracket on my Ashford with the knuckle on my left thumb. I was trying to load the second course E-W. I think I will stick to N-S on the second course from now on.

I have many large lineman gauntlet gloves at my house usually right next to the stove and most times I don’t wear them. My wife almost always wears them, but it seems to take the fun out of reloading a hot stove with gloves on. Guess that’s why I get burned and she doesn’t.
Nope . . . and this year I've found myself using my gloves less often.
On the other hand I was sporting a couple of nice burns a few weeks back when I was helping cook garlic bread for our fire department's annual Christmas dinner and I attempted to catch the hot cookie sheet when the bread started to slip off. I still have a spot of shiny skin on one hand showing off that evening's mistake.

The welding gloves i used to get, el cheapos at lowes, were always short and i would get branded a few times a year, and the gloves themselves would last a year. One year super cedars ran a promotion where they included free gloves, they were longer, and have lasted forever. I wish i knew where to get another set, only get branded maybe once a year now.
I've made it a habit to wear my gloves. I don't have to think about it and can get my hands right in there. The only time I don't wear them is on cold starts. But, I tagged myself on the door this year, but don't remember why or where it happened...pretty minor.

Christmas morning, the kid must have been two or three. I was standing in the dining room getting dressed. The kid was in the living room opening presents and getting excited. She took off running, and I could see a disaster in the making. The wood stove was between us, and I dropped my clothes and dove between her and it. I seared about a 3 or 4 inch circle off each cheek. I did not sit for a few days.

Haha of course! I've gotten "latched" by the 30, and although I wear welding gloves on reloads I've gotten convenient burns right along the cuff.
Not yet, as a new burner with less than a dozen burns, but i've already brushed the edges of the opening, or reached to grab the door. Just no marks yet. Most of the hair is already gone from the back of one hand already.
I was thinking long welding gloves could be nice for this. I see here I was right.
