Just wanted to make a post. After spending so much time here it finally happened. Sure is pretty.

I’ll post in this thread when I get around to actually breaking it in and running it.

Time to grow the wood pile.

Looks nice. Remember to do your break in fires this summer while it's still warm. You want open windows and a box fan for that!

Next winter, keep an eye on that wood mantel above the stove and make sure it's not exceeding 170° when the stove is cranking.

Is that a rug rated for ember protection? Or tile? Nice looking install.

Thanks for this. I certainly will check that. I did have the dealer order me a new one (they had to for enamel anyhow) as I wanted to have the clearance to avoid a mantle shield.

That is tile for the first 24”. Then the rug. Which is not rated for ember protection. It is just there temporarily while I remodel the basement. Sounds like I outta start hunting for a hearth rug that my at home supervisor approves of.

Edit: Oh. I guess I assumed that since the tile has been in place since 1921 I’d be good. Below the tile it is packed with what I (who’s knows nothing) would call some kind of cement product.

There is a crawl space below. I know there is no wood until you get to the edge.

Hell I half was waiting for it to give way when the stove was installed.

Looks great. It should make a notable difference in that space come winter.

My ember protection extends about 4', and I've had big red hot coals roll off of it.

Buy a pair of welding gloves when you're buying your rug, and you can just pick that stuff up and pop it back in the stove.

Is a wool rug a valid choice?

That looks very nice. I like the proportions of the glass to the surround. I second the welding gloves. I don’t use pokers tongs ect. Just a good par of gloves and another piece of firewood.

At that distance, yes. we have a wool hearth rug 17" from the stove glass. The cat loves it.
