Hi everyone,

I purchased a Blaze King Ashford 30 earlier in the year and recently had it installed. The first several fires were small to medium fires, gradually building up to large fires following the manufacturer's break in procedure. The stove was working as expected, until recently I have noticed that the air control was no longer functioning properly. When turning the dial to allow maximum air into the stove, there are no changes to the fire and vice versa. The metallic rod that is connected to the dial spins when turning the dial. After removing the cover to the metal flap and turning the dial up/down the metal flap stays completely closed.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, was this an easy DIY fix or will I need to get the dealer involved? Also, how would something like this happen? Was this user error on my part or an issue from the factory. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I was able to get the flapper back into place and now it moves with the dial. However, when fully closed it remains very open (pic # 1). Is that the correct position that it should be at when it is closed for a cold stove?

Picture #2 is where it is when the stove is past the active zone and the dial is at the closed position.

Is there a possible mechanical or coil issue inside the box? The metal flap moves when the dial is turned now, but I don't know how it got completely unlatched and if it would happen again once the cover was put back into place.

Edit: The flapper fell back completely shut and turning the dial does not move the flapper now.

I was hoping you replied. Thank you so much for your input! Do you happen to know if dealers would have someone fix it for me or just provide me the part under warranty.

Please ask the dealer. Candidly, replacement takes 10 minutes. You'll need #2:Robertson (square drive) and cut off wheel or bolt cutters. Also either 5/64 or 7/64 Allen wrench.

1) Remove fan on the rod side if fans are installed.

2) locate small hole on thermostat knob (black) and remove knob using allen wrench to loosen set screw.

3) Lift thermostat up and away to right so rod comes out of bracket.

4) Turn replacement thermostat rod with pliers clockwise until it stops. Drop thermostat into air channel and direct rod through bracket.

5) Cut thermostat rod to correct length. You can do this by holding old one in place to get correct rod length.

6) Slide knob on end of rod turning clockwise only until it bottoms out.

7) Rotate knob clockwise until white line on knob points at 6 o'clock. Tighten the set screw really tight.

8) Turn knob counter clockwise until flapper is closed. Replace main tube lid and reinstall fans.

Done.
