Hello,

I have a brand new, used less than 2 hours, jotul GF 400 and the paint has already chipped off the top of the stove on the inside of the firebox. See attached photo.

Would this be considered a manufacturer defect? During the first use of about 20 min the entire house filled with smoke and it had a strong burning chemical smell. Is this normal? Should the paint be chipping after only 2 hours of use?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Matt

stuff happens, not worth trying to file a warrantee claim imo
ask the dealer to come fix it, or turn off all gas to the appliance, sand the area down and re-paint with high temp black yourself

Totally normal occurrence in a very harsh environment.
The break in period to "burn off" the oils & adhesives used in manufacture
& to cure the paint is a MINIMUM of 4 hours burning on HIGH with the blower off.
Could take as long as 8 hours, & this shouild be covered in the owner/install amnual.
