Local news channel posted the average temperature for this winter thus far, 28 degrees I believe. That is the coldest average since 1996 for southern New England. I know many of you are in the same boat here in the east. Any stats posted by your local news stations?

Edit: probably should have posted this in inglenook. Mod move if needed please thanks!

I remember the winters of 95/96 and 96/97. The first was the winter I got my Amstaff pup. Picked him out of the litter at 2 days old. At 8 weeks I took him from his mother. I used to bring him to my friends house with him riding inside my jacket. Just his head was poking out the top. He had short hair and it was cold. It was a short walk under 5 mins. Not worth starting up the truck for it.

The following winter was almost equally as cold. Just a little warmer. I remember this winter as well. I had just gotten a brand new truck mid summer. A 96 F350 SRW reg cab with 8' bed. It came with an 8' Fisher plow too. I was king,,, lol. My dog rode shotgun. When I plowed snow he stood proud in the seat. He'd jump down to the floor when he saw the snow bank approaching. hen, when I reversed, he'd jump back up to watch all the action. After kissing the dash a couple of times he learned quickly. I miss that boy....he was a good dog.

Well, November, December and January were all colder than average (and within the top 10, I believe). I remember hearing a couple of weeks ago, that it is coldest since 2017, but that might have changed.

We've had several top 10 warm winters in the last 5 years, so it is about time we try to even that out by a colder than average winter (not that I like it, just that's the way it is). Should be a good winter for tick control anyway - ticks have been horrible the last couple of years becuase of the mild winters. No, it won't kill them all, but does knock down the population and density.

All ice ages have to end eventually! If they rate them by ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica, this one will probably be around a few more years.

I certainly hope so! The ticks have been out of control the last few years.

That pesky climate change.

So, I guess the earth really is warming up if you take the right slice out of the data set huh.......

Almost like you are being snarky and using exactly 1 piece of a data set to do so;)

Maybe I'm taking it the wrong way. Regardless, climate always changes, it's all a matter of how it affects us, and to what degree.

The warming up is at the poles. This is disrupting the polar vortex and in turn, the jet stream. While the east coast *weather* is cold, the west coast is setting records. I've mowed the lawn twice this year. First time in my life that I have mowed in January. That's two months early for here. January 2025 was the warmest January on record globally, surpassing the previous record set in January 2024. This is not a good trend.
Meanwhile, it's a hot summer in the southern hemisphere.
