First Thoughts on my new BK Sirocco

Only doing shoulder burns here, kindling and 2-3 small splits so far. I really like this stove. It takes more time to warm up than my Intrepid II, guess that was to be expected. Cat engaged at the lower end of the scale on the thermometer with not any visible smoke outside-this was with coals and one split- 3 small splits after hot coals gave me usable heat 7hr later at low setting. Glass gets a little dirty on left and right lower corners (could be operator error). Fans and convection deck would be good for bigger house than mine-they are installed but first impressions are that I am not ever going to use the fan. I don't have as much wood as I like this year, have a connection to get some more- the ability of this stove to go low go slow looks like it will work for me.

I prefer the look of the Sirocco best of all the BK line especially with legs.. How much does that stove go for in NJ?

NJ price was 3100. Drove to dealer 2 hrs south to the land of corporations/credit card companies and bought it for 2700. Excellent dealer, no hassles.

Expensive but outrageous for a good stove. I definitely like the looks much more than the other BK stoves! Keep us posted how it works when the weather gets cold. I hear about the long low burns and I wonder about when you need to run it harder how it works..

When a tank of oil is 800+ here, suddenly 2700 does not seem like alot to me. Double wall inside/triple wall outside straight vertical gives me excellent draft so far, no backdraft issues yet. Oil furnace needs less maintenance, that's another cost saving. My house is small, 2 cords brought me through my worst winters with the Intrepid here in NJ with minimal oil use. This stove already appears to be superior in every way to the Intrepid-I expect to save on wood use which will allow me to gradually build up to 2-4 years supply with ease. Less starts and stops will help, house not getting too hot will keep wifey happy, along without having to beg her to do anything wood related. I am more of a lurker on here as I am not as knowledgeable as others on the forum, but to me it seems all of those that upgraded to newer stoves are happier. This forum has been invaluable to all participants from what I read as posters give great advice on what stoves to pick for their personal applications, along with problem solving for issues. Years of experience and knowledge add up. P.S everything in NJ is expensive, not just wood stoves and oil.

So Ray, you're a leg man? Hopefully you prefer long and shapely not short and stumpy, but hey, there's a lid for every pot and a style of wood stove for everyone's taste. I'm in your camp, a leg man myself. Joking aside, the dealer talked me into the pedestal due to the bigger ash pan (took his word for it, never checked myself).

Haha yes a legman! I do prefer long and shapely on a woman and short and shapely on a wood stove though . I agree it's just a matter of taste. I have a large built in ash bin on the T-5 but prefer to just shovel the stove but slide the ash drawer out a bit when cleaning the ash lip..

Griff have you had any time to do a full burn on low with this stove? I am really interested in this stove for a new house we are building.

Just wondering how much wood you packed in it and what was your burn times.
