Cut these up the last couple mornings. Have heard hack was hard to split but this one isn't. It's not very big though so maybe that's why. The water oak is very straight and splits like a dream. Well on my way to getting year 3 done.

Same here with the hackberry I split. Some was a little stringy but not like I heard it was

Well I'm soaking wet from sweat but the hackberry is split. It's about as humid today as it's been all year. Bout ready to shut it down until fall.

What part of Pennsylvania are you from? My brother in law is from Allentown. Him and his wife just went up to nobles amusement park for a week. Not sure where that's at. I think were gonna go with them next year.

Have Mercy! Cutting and splitting in MS in July !!!

Tell me about it! I'm in a position to slow down now. I'm setting on about 2.5 years worth of wood. July and August are horrible here. It's gotten to the point of being unsafe really. Bring on Fall!

With that being said I'll probably still cut a few small loads here and there. I love this stuff!

Who you tryin' to kid? You ain't shuttin' it down. ;lol
I'll be shutting it down after I cut a few more cords, and stack about six or so. _g It's been humid but there have been a lot of tolerable days here, low 90s is the hottest it's gotten. My neighbor needs some quick-dry so we're going to get an easy soft Maple scrounge next week. Easy pickins, a topped-out triple trunker with no limbs, and can back right up to it. There's a couple of days where the highs are only mid 70s. ==c

Yea you're right. I've done eyed the forecast next week too. Got some low 80's and low 60's in the mornings coming. That's gonna feel like fall compared to the last week or so! I'm sure if my job permits it, Ill be firing up the stihl! :) Have fun with that maple!

Have fun with that maple!
If I remember right, there's another one out back that he was wanting out because it was close to the house as well. My buddy is burning a Buck 91 too, so we'll probably grab the other one, too. I cut up a hard Maple log he's had down for a while but I don't think there's enough time to get that dry for this year.
Bah, missed out on another Bodark that I saw down behind a guy's house, a big'un; Guy said his BIL wants it, so my stash remains at 1/4 cord. ;hm Got any of that stuff in your woods?

Man, I love me some water oak. That is all we burned when I was growing up. Cut it short, like 14 inches to fit in the small buck stove.

Not really sure. Got about everything else( except ash of course). I'll be on the lookout

Pretty much all I have on our property is oak with a little bit of some huge hickories. Water oak is my favorite! Hand splitting or hydraulic, is splits nice and neat.
Even trees that have been standing dead for a couple of years will almost pour water out of the trunk when you take it down. The tops may be ready to burn right away but the wood from the trunk can still take at least two more years to season, even though the tree had already been dead for two years. I just spotted a dying one on the low side of our meadow a few days ago. The top was definitely dead and dropping limbs though the lower section had a lot of greenery still. Trunk was about 20 inches in diameter. Maybe 30 feet tall with a nice straight trunk. I got it bucked up to my 20 inch lengths and will try to split it soon, but with a string of high 90s to low 100s days coming up, it may have to wait.
