Help needed - Harman, Enviro, or Napoleon?

Hi all,

I bought a house 2 years ago and it came with an old Kozi Baywin pellet stove. The Kozi has been acting up this year and finally died a horrible, horrible death last week. I have been talking to local dealers and researching online for about 20 hours in the last 3 days and finally have it narrowed down to 3 options. I really don't trust the dealers opinion on stove options because all of them only sell one brand so they are obviously going to push that one. I was hoping the members here could provide some detail on why they would recommend one over the others or why I should stay away one or more of the options.

The three finalists are:
1. Harman P43
2. Enviro Meridian or Enviro EF3
3. Napoleon NPS45

Well after reading posts here for a year, we went with a Harman P43 in Dec and don't regret it. It keeps our 1600 sq ft 2-story house at 70-74 downstairs and 68-72 upstairs (depending on the outside temps). It is pretty much a 'set it & forget it" running unit. I shut it down every 2 weeks on a Sunday and give it a complete cleaning (takes about 30 min). We added a SkyTech 3301p wireless thermostat (very easy to hook up).

I don't have experience with any other stoves but I love my Harman.
My father has a Harman and an Enviro. He prefers his Harman by a fair amount.

I looked at Nepolean before buying a Harman P61 ( the P43's big brother). Cleaning access and the burn pot design were the selling factors of the Harman P series stoves. It's running really really well.

We have sold all three, and still sell two of them. The enviro Maxx-M is by far the best stove I have ever seen, It ignites very quickly (it has a air pump to help ignite quicker) It holds three bags of pellets. We have one in our show room we have been burning all year it has had about 23 tons through it and we have only been empting the ash pan. It also has a heat distribution kit that allows you to pipe it into two different rooms. Now I will admit it is a rather boxy looking stove but it is a performer

I agree the maxx-M is the way to go. I would have bought one but it was way more expensive over the eco-65, out of my budget.

The OP did not ask about the Maxx-M........

As long as we're all being "objective" and suggesting the stoves we own, I would suggest any of them will do the job, treated properly with good pellets. No such thing as a pellet stove that is perfect, that does not break, not any manufacturer that I have sold, installed or repaired. Why not a Quad 1200CB?? That's another good performing stove. Bottom line, any will do well for you if installed, ran and cleaned properly.

If one did have an enviro, find it hard to believe its "night and day different" from any other brand. Lets see if you're still drinking the koolaid in a few years... I know my 6 y/o Empress still works pretty good, only got about 20 more years to go...

Hey all,

Thanks for the input. I am looking at those three because they are what is available of local dealers. Quadra fire was an option but the local dealer in halifax (ultimate home comfort) weren't very good in terms of customer service and I wouldn't trust them with maintenance.

I have it narrowed down to the Harmon and Enviro but am leaning towards the Harmon. Has anyone used the battery backup Harmon sells? Thoughts?

For the coin Harman wants for the batt backup, you could get yourself a decent generator and operate more than the stove with it. Small sine wave gennys are very portable and very quiet. Keep ethanol fuel out of it and there's minimal maintenance.

Just an idea.

I don't own the EF3 but I do own an Enviro M55 FS. It's a workhorse of a pellet stove and has done well for me over the past 3 seasons. Only flaw was replacing the blower motor to a more powerful one ($200).

It was -27 last night and the stove kept my upstairs at a nice 67-68 degrees. I really like Enviro. It's a lot of stove for the money. Harmon was just too pricey for my tastes.
