March did indeed come in like a lion here, but it's looking like it will play nice and go out like a lamb.

A cold front is always possible but we've been on a 24 hour reload schedule here and will likely be down to a small load on cool nights by the weeks end.

I am travelling in the Midwest. Snowed like crazy for a couple hours yesterday morning; by lunchtime there was no evidence that it has ever snowed this year. 50 degrees, bright sunshine.

    Single digits tonight.

Back in the 40's and 50's later this week.

It is always a yo-yo around here.

No problem. Tell him that sounds delicious.

I don't want to have to put lunch on the grill with a teaspoon.

Anyway, .22 shorts are a lot cheaper.

I've honestly never seen a .22 short. Do they still make .22 short guns? Every one I own takes .22 LR, even the pistols.

It is a much smaller version of the LR. It is really a mini version. Not used in autos that I've ever heard of. Too small to cycle a slide.

8F at my house this morning. Spring can't come quickly enough. :)

Sure. I think any bolt action or tube loaded rifle that takes a .22 LR can take a .22 short. They're cheaper, lower velocity, quieter, good for short range plinking and not tearing up your groundhog so much before it hits the grill.

The rimfire .22 short was the first American metal cartridge. Then .22 Long came along, soon followed by the .22 Extra Long (which I had never heard of until just now when I read about it on wikipedia) and the .22 Long Rifle, which is what you get when you ask for .22 shells today.

Looks like very little burning here for the next week or so. Old Man Winter probably feels his time this year has been about twenty too short. ==c

Yep, familiar with the history. Just didn't know anyone still used 'em! The only .22 short rounds I've ever even seen were in my grandfather's gun cabinet 30 years ago, and were probably 50+ years old at that time.

I'm not concerned with the quality of my groundhog corpses. ;lol They get thrown in the woods, or dumped in the garbage can, if it's close enough to trash day.

I'm going to have a fire tonight, then the stove is going cold. I live in Michigan, though, so there is a high probability it'll be re-fired. It's to the point now that burning wood is more expensive than the small amount of Natural Gas needed to heat the house.

We are done except for an occasional chill buster during a rainy spell. Highs in the 70's-lows in the 50's. Time to put the tomotoes in!

That won't be happening here for at least a month. I'm just getting greens, broccoli and radishes started.
