Is anyone using a draft inducer with their gasser

I'm about to plumb up my new boiler and have a decision to make. I bought a Tjernlund inducer but never installed it with my old EKO 40. Now that my Vigas has an automated switch for an inducer, I'm considering installing it. In order to do so I need to buy about $125 of new chimney parts and have to push the boiler further away from the back wall to fit in enough single wall pipe to insert the inducer.

The 80 is a space hog as it is, I'm a bit hesitant to consume more space in my boiler room.

Does anyone have an inducer and after some years find that it's not worth the trouble to run? Alternatively are there those of you that would kill to have one if you were starting over ( as I am ) ?

My system uses 8" dual wall stainless Metalbestos and vents out the sidewall and runs up the exterior of the shed a total height of about 23'. I can add a couple more sticks of pipe up there if I need to. I have fresh air intake and exhaust louvers in my boiler room. Using an exhaust fan to remove smoke let out during wood loading always struck me as counter productive.

I am going to try a high cfm fan with a automotive exhaust pipe inside my flue to create a Venturi effect while loading. I am hoping to eliminate smoke when loading.

I am thinking electric leaf blower on a switched outlet for starters.

I have a Vigas with an inducer and if u want as little smoke as possible in ur new shop I would advise u get one unless u have the self control to not open the door to reload until the fire has burned down. God knows that's not a virtue I possess

Why did you go from the EKO to the Vigas?

I needed a bigger firebox to charge my 2000 gal storage and the Vigas was a bit more refined. EKO has it's 'issues' with the factory and importer lately.

I've often wondered why they can't design them so the flue connection is some distance higher than the top of the wood door. Seems no manufacturer does it.

The old Jetstream uses one blower at 99 cubic feet per minute. The air is split; 55% for forced preheated combustion air and 45% to a venturi type draft inducer. The smoke pipe can be seen leaving the top of the heat exchanger with the draft inducer air tube entering the bottom of the smoke pipe.

This boiler is much different than its modern cousins. But still burns clean and efficiently. (My opinion)


When the loading door is opened, the forced combustion air is cut to the burn chamber allowing full blower output to the draft inducer. If you open the loading chamber door slowly, no smoke enters the room!

I have Vigas 80 with inducer right out back then double wall chimmey. I moved the inducer so it was further away from unit as it burns out the fan blade. You do need the inducer as the 80 always has coals in it that lite up when putting in wood. The 80 holds a lot of wood so u have to hurry your loading process. Foamit Up
