Is there anyone in the Kansas City area that does installs?!

Hi all, glad to have found this forum, and the first post ever. Hopefully you can help a guy out :)

I had my chimney cleaned a couple months back and had some repairs done to the cap. I've been using a Cozy Grate heater for a few years, but after the inspection of the chimney, we've found that some of the mortar int he flu pipe has fallen out, so we can't burn until the chimney gets lined.

So we decided to get a wood burning insert, and have everything measured out and several brands picked out - Osburn or Regency inserts would fit.

Here's our problem - local bids for an install are through the roof - almost half again what the insert actually costs. On top of that, nobody will install a stove they don't sell.

We've got some calls out to several companies, but it doesn't seem like anybody in the Kansas City area is interested in installations.

Are there any installers on the forums here, or is there somebody that you're recommend in our area that can do installs? Thanks!

Post up some real numbers for us. Many times people simply don't realize the cost of the materials. There are some round about figures that can be used as a baseline for pipe, install, etc. What have you been quoted?

The first fireplace store we checked had an insert - can't remember the brand now - that with installation would have cost about 3K. Two other places I've gone have quoted $5K+ for a Regency I2400 installed. Checking online, I can get the insert dropped in my driveway for $1,789. I've also checked on the Osburn 1600 and Drolet Escape 1400 and they're $1,479 and $1,275. Of course this doesn't include the price of the liner, but those are the retail prices.

Now - tell us about your install. Flue length, size? The need to get rid of a fireplace damper? Unusual roof? Stuff like that.

The liner would need to be oval 4x6, no odd fireplace configuration, and I believe the flue length is about 15ft. No unusual roof line. The gas line feeding the fireplace would have to be capped

4 x 6 is gonna be a pain for install. As a matter of fact, I am not sure what liner they would even use. Depending on the stove, etc. It is not uncommon for stove/liner/install to be between $3500-$5000. Insulation, block off plate, etc. can alter those figures as well.

Is a 4x6" oval really needed? What are the actual chimney tile liner's inner dimensions?
