Well saturday morning i was bored. So i did a test run in the Madison. Lit a small pile of kindling. It ran up to around 420*. Then was mostly coals and fell back to 300* after bout an hour. Threw in a hand full of small pine splits. About 7 around 1" in diameter and a hickory round 4" in dia. I cut all my wood around 16" long. It quickly climbed up to 430* and i cut the air back, almost all the way.
The secondary's lit off really well. Hardly any fire on the wood it self. The stove top continued to climb to 540*. The secondary's burn nice for bout an hour. Then the temp slow dropped. At the 7 hour mark, from the reload, it was still 250* and had enough coals to relight. And that was some pine kindling and 1 4" hickory round. At the 9 hour mark i could dig around and find a few red coals. By the 10 hour mark there was none left.
I think im going to be real happy with the Madison. I dont think ill have any trouble getting an overnite burn. With a load of hard wood.
