Well I got my new Jotul 500 (blue/black finish) installed today and looking forward to doing the break in burns. Looks great in the fireplace. Very happy with everything. Also bought a Ariens 22 ton splitter and Ive been splitting/stacking wood for a few weeks a little at a time. Getting ready. Starting to cool off in CT. :)

My favorite finish. That's a handsome start to the season.

If that is the wood you are planning on burning this season you will probably be pretty dissapointed

Nice !!

what kind of wood ?

That looks awesome, great stove and very nice fireplace. Did you install a block off plate? and what your wood supply looking like?

Great looking stove and fireplace! My Oslo has worked great so I am sure you will have similar results.

Just make sure you give your wood enough time to season.

First fire should be the crate it came in. Perfect break in temp.

Beautiful stove and hearth. You are gonna love that heater.

Thanks! No the dealer/installer didn't install one. I asked about it and they said it wasn't needed. Didn't really buy what he said, so I am thinking I might address that. He said it was blocked off at the top of the chimney and wasn't needed. I said what about the heat going up into the chimney, he said it would be minimal. My wood supply is about 2 1/2 cords right now. I have a friend that has more which i may get or I may just go with bio bricks for this year until the 5 cords I'm splitting now seasons.

Sure looks nice!

That is a really nice stove. Congrats! I have an Ariens 27 ton, like it a lot, got it with 0% financing. Live on the border of CT. Did a small break in fire last night in my Encore, me and the dog flat out in front of the stove looking at the dancing flames. You will have some good burning with that beautiful baby.

Sounds awesome. Yeah I was gonna buy the 27 ton, but I needed the extra 500-600 for other things. So far the 22 has split everything ive put thru it no problem, even narly twisted stuff.

Have a stove in a fireplace for ten years. Ya need it. Believe me. Ten bucks worth of sheet metal and an hours labor pays you back with heat forever.

Yeah see that kinda irritated me that the installer said I didn't need one. His exact words were "its sealed at the top so you don't need one". I said yeah but what about the heat getting trapped up in the chimney. He said "it will be minimal and I wouldn't worry about it". I didn't know if you could just stuff some fire proof insulation up in there or do if you actually have to make a plate

I have a block off plate up inside the chimney where the tiles start. It's really there to hold the pour down insulation in place. Where the damper plate was I just stuffed fireproof insulation like you mentioned.

So do you think I can get just stick some insulation up where the damper plate was or should I make a block off plate?

I have an 8" ovalized pipe coming through the damper, so there really wasn't all that much open space on either side to close off. How big of an opening is there in your case?

Its roughly about 12 inches on either side of the pipe.
