Outdoor Storage tip..

Although my pellets are stored in my basement, I thought this was a great tip:

assuming your skid of pellets are shrink wrapped etc and you want to put a Tarp over the whole load,
put a basketball or soccer ball on top then put the Tarp on..
this will cause you to have an "A" frame at the top and any Rain water will roll down and not puddle on top.

May seem like a dumb question but don't mice find there way into the bags when storing outside? Last winter we had weeks of -20f here and for the first time ever I had mice in my garage, they even got into my cars in the garage....and they're both almost new vehicles. The little monsters were just trying to keep warm...I had to go back to parking my cars outside so the mice would stay out of the cars. ( and yup it worked!) so I can't see how the little b@$tards wouldn't nest in a nice big pile of food.

Bait and moth balls around here. I live in the middle of a couple sections of corn and beans and the ground around here just rustles with little critters. Several glue traps in the house. Squirrels get a leaded round or two of applause and the rabbits are well served with stuffing. If it was not for having a pair of snoopy dogs I would probably setting booby traps with cyclonite as I don't like removing bodies.

Since I have 4 tons sitting outside for a while, I'll take any tips I can get. Got 6 mil plastic covering the pallets but it would be easy enough for me to undo a section and insert a high point. Actually, probably don't need to do anything until break open the skids and start transferring bags to the house.

Have stored ours outside for 3 years now, haven't had any problem with critters of any kind bothering the pellets. After the amount of snow we had last winter, we did get a 10x10x8 shed-in-a-box to cover them this year. Which means it probably won't snow much. Like when we bought our generator and had it wired with a whole house switch 3 years ago- power has never been out for more than 5 min since.

Hope you are right and it doesn't snow much! I would love the Farmer's Almanac to be wrong as we have had 2 hard winters in a row. Probably get another shed next year so that I can get deliveries of pellets and not make them sit outside. Or if I win the lottery, just build a nice oversized 2 car garage and convert my under-house 1 car garage to my workshop. Then I could put the P61a in there along with the pellets.

The kid in the apartment adjacent to my lot are always losing a soccer or basket ball in my yard (with a 3' high fence that it has to go over - he can get around easily enough to retrieve the ball). I don't' really mind, but sometimes he forgets it for days on end and I finally end up throwing it back over the fence. Maybe I just won't throw it back one of these times . . .
