Well, you might be first, but my dog is prettier than your snow trail.Your cousin might have done you a favor (although he still deserves a beating). He clearly showed that supporting the roof off a pair of rafters was doomed to failure. You need a header running full length, under the joists and notched in to the columns. A good VT winter snow load with a little rain would have done the same.
