Yeah all the neighbors that say wow you have "Sooo Much" firewood have no clue.
5 cords CSS in the yard at this point is woefully inadequate.

Don't Believe the Hype!

Reload number 2. More of the same. Only got about 5.5-6 hours out this mornings since I ran it near wide open the whole time.

Started her up this morning. Today is not suppose to be as cold as previous days. Suppose to get up to 40 today. Maybe the last fire for a bit as temps during the day are going to climb into the 50's after Thursday with some temps in the upper 50's.

Heating is so much nicer when it's almost 20 degrees and sunny. 3rd aspen load for the day just went in and will get me to the overnight load. Going down close to 0 tonight but another mid teens day coming tomorrow.
I agree! I overestimated the amount of heat needed today. Currently 74-75 inside..

Temp is supposed to plummet tonight though. Going to go from about 33 to 0

Outside is 27 going down to 13.
Upstairs is 70.
To conserve some wood I ran the half load of ash and oak uglies from this morning quite low and ran the mini split upstairs as the main heat source. Kept the stove and basement warm so I could have the stove take over now without having to ramp up.

Reload of red oak. Not full (a bit short and some not well fitting ones) but enough.

Yes, I have about two cords per year and I burned 4/5 of that.
I do have some "emergency" wood that's dry,. mostly silver maple and spruce (and an odd stick of oak and locust left overs from previous years), so I'll be fine. But running this low at the start of February is new for me.

Next week I'll have a work trip to CA and I think the wife will burn Sun- Tue, and then use the mini split,.so that saves some too.

We'll see how it goes.

I did a morning and late afternoon load of spruce yesterday then a 12am spruce load this morning now a daytime load of all spruce. Not a normal loading schedule for me but work got in the way. Damn work 🤷🏻‍♂👎🏻🤣. Now back to our normal programming…off to load the wood racks. Heat wave expected today, high around freezing 🥵

Definitely feels like sweatshirt weather compared to what we’ve had!

Plus, later, the fire brokers feline social calm and the white lion is starting to stop being so concerned with my originals.

1stick chestnut/ 1 Wht oak
chunk of Siberian Elm and little round of holly
The rest is Wht oak and hazel except for the beech spatula which finally made it into the stove

You don't keep the torch that close to the stove during the burn cycle, do you?

It was 30 outside today, so I dialed down the stove and ran very low to keep it warm. Mini split upstairs.

23 hrs in a reload of red oak shorties. Tomorrow likely the same, as it'll be 33 or so, but colder tomorrow night
23 for the low overnight tonight.

Well, lately I've been feeding the dragon whatever I can find that won't spit at us. I'm "out" of good seasoned wood.
I have a stuffed wheelbarrow's worth of 2yr seasoned red oak set aside in the lair. What's left of the heavy half cord I had before the big snow storm. It was cold out and the dragon loved it. Another year of seasoning would have been better but, she didn't complain.

I have another 3 heavy wheelbarrow loads worth of petrified, dead R oak limb wood. Some 8'' around that I either halved or split into thirds. This stuff still enjoying the winds outside. There's a pile of splits from last Oct. Some of its GTG. I piled it ontop of some logs in a full wind spot. The Norway maple and black cherry splits are ret and ready. Most likely around 22-23% MC.

I found a pile of oak limbs/logs that have been sitting off the ground for 3 yrs. I cut and split some and let it sit for 2 days. Burned okay. Biggest dia was about 8''.

The dragon won't starve but, gourmet meals are done for the season. I'm saving the good R oak I have for those cold dips. One coming this weekend.

It was colder than expected this morning at -10 so I was playing catch up burning a couple hot loads of Oak and Maple. Ended up being a nice sunny day and 20. Temps are dropping fast now at 8:30 pm already -4, getting ready for a mix load of oak and maple for the overnight.
