15C in the salon, it’s been sunny and dry the past 2 or 3 weeks, but the blasting wind the past 3 days has the old barn convert sub 16C, so, decided to get some heat going

Mostly white oak

We’re burning again today and tonight. It was raw and cloudy all day and low 40s tonight. May be the last one though! 🔥

Below freezing again last night. Looked at the five day forecast and looks cold overnight.
Probably have a fire every night until it stays warmer at night.
In the stove now is some Maple, hickory and one small piece of white Birch.

Maybe I am the only one still burning.
Been below or near freezing the last week or so. Still not warm at night in the future forecast.
In the stove now is Oak and Hickory.

This is the end of my wood for this burning season. When this is gone that is it for me.

Until next fall, probably September

You're not alone, still burning off and on here too. Couple nights in the 20's coming this week yet. Sometimes I skip the overnight fire but have one in the morning when it's still in the 40's and warm enough inside at bedtime but in the low 30's by morning...

Here’s our first fire in about 4 days, threw some spruce on to take the chill off this morning. Cool and rainy, low 40s. It looks like I’ll be burning again tonight as well judging by the forecasted overnight temps.

Another fire in CT this morning. Wasn't really sure about it but wanted to use the wood I brought in the living room.

I hope the tree the town took down in my yard is in fact spruce as they specified. Not so sure, as it seems quite soft and difficult to split. It took quite a while to set the 1st 20" diameter, 18" high round split in half. No log splitter...yet.

Spruce is difficult anywhere a limb is involved. It seems to get wavy grain. Even with a splitter sometimes it just pulverizes the wood instead of splitting. Other times it pulls the limb out of the split and leaves a round hole in the next.

So noted - thanks for the information. Whatever this wood is, the characteristic so far is the maul blade getting somewhat stuck with very little crack in the wood accomplished. I may move what I have cut so far to where the rest of the wood is and let it season for a while.

My 3rd “last fire” post, I’m jinxing it by saying it each time I think 🤔 anyhow spruce is in and chugging along nicely, cloudy with rain on and off in the 50s all day today and low 40s tonight so we’re burning away.

Its May 1st. Still....having....fires. Been running the insert all week.
Yeah, it's flurrying right now again. Was 27 when I got up. Good coals this morning from the full birch, cherry and white ash load last night for a mid size aspen fire this morning. Forecast low of 23 tonight and still have low 30's forecast for some overnights next week...

I have a half load of oak uglies and spruce non uglies in tonight.

I have some Oak cut ends and a piece of Hickory in the stove now.
I brought down the last of this years wood to the rack inside. When that is gone that is it for this season.
The small wood shed is empty now. I need to grind a couple of stumps down and move the shed to its new location. Hopefully the move goes good and easy. 🤞

29 this morning, aspen and black ash is in. Looks like a couple of morning fires yet but might be done with the overnights...?
