Supposed to hit 90 degrees this weekend, here in the Mitten. We're fully in backyard campfire mode at this point. Likely won't have a fire in the stove again until October.

I have a bunch of pine, box elder, and cottonwood that I'll be using up for bonfires until then.

High of 55 today. Small breakin fire in the new Jotul F100 and might as well have a small fire in the Fireview as well right?

I see you're burning horizontal in the summer time, does it draft better?:)

Ha yeah don’t know what happened there.
Thanks for the nice cool weather, it feels like fall in the morning the last couple of days but after the hot stretch we had, we love it.

Breezy today with a high in the upper 50’s. Forecast low of 40 tonight, probably get a bit colder than that.

3/4 load of Aspen in the Fireview this evening to keep the cabin toasty.

Also a small load of Oak in the new refurbed Jotul F100 out in the workshop just to break her in.

I was considering it, then changed my mind. Starting to warm up to the idea... Might turn the furnace back on for the night.
So as an experiment (and risking the wrath of the better half) I didn't turn the furnace on last night. Went to bed with the house at 70 degrees and this morning it is still 67. Overnight low was mid 30's. Don't think I should try that in November or spring with the walls cold and the same outside temps. We have highs in the low to mid 50's yesterday through Sunday, so it might not be a good idea already by the weekend depending on the sun...

This is the new place in the Northwoods we built in '21/'22. Full time up here now since April, sold the place in SE WI with the electric baseboards and NC30. Burning isn't as critical now, but I enjoy it and happily will trade some time and labor for a lower natural gas bill. The Stratford 2 zc does a good job here.
