  • Hope everyone has a wonderful and warm Thanksgiving!
I suppose it's time to get serious and stop hanging onto fall lol.

21 this morning with a chilly house and 2 embers I could find left over from the couple of pieces of pine I chucked in last night. Tonight I guess there should be some hardwood.

Yellow pine fire dancing now. The big blue rock is nice and warm, stack pulling hard and the cats cooking along. Coffee and Vince Guaraldi wafting through the house. Call me old school but Christmas season starts the day after Thanksgiving, not Halloween.

Was still 74 in the house last night before bed so skipped the overnight fire. Was cold last night with real feel in teens this morning, house was down to 65. All big splits of oak plus bit split of cherry and hickory before I left for work

Oof, feels like winter out there. Currently 37F with a wind chill of 27F. Mix of spruce and red maple uglies right now has the house warming up. Will switch over to a proper load of red maple for the evening since nighttime temps are supposed to drop to 20F.

Did not reload morning load until 5pm since house retains the heat well. The plus is I save wood, downside is two cold starts. Once temps drop to the teens and 20’s I won’t have to do this. Loaded with red oak and maple. STT 600 on this load. House 74. Dropping to upper 20’s so will load before bed.

Just got home from a couple of days at my sister's. Cleaned the glass and removed some ash. Firing up the charcoal with some small stuff and will be a full load of cherry, black ash and a chunk or two of some better stuff. Currently 18 out with snow coming tomorrow followed by cold (overnight lows around 0).

I was tired last night so no overnight fire. Tonight I have five splits of beech going, it's 78 in the basement, 70 in the living room and the sleeper is 68, the outside temp is 24.

27/66 here this morning. Had to beef up what little coals I had left with some pallet wood. Topped that off with a couple of sticks of oak and maple.

Excellent pic, it should be on the front of a Christmas card......what temp is the auber/digital readout reading? Stove top?

STT usually runs hotter than the Auber on this stove. It got up to 550 before I closed the flue damper 60% and it settled in to 375-400 or so. Still there in that range. That probably has STT near 500.

Well, you made me get up and check my math with the IR. SST is 512 at the moment.

It’s Thanksgiving! Who cares about the temps! We gonna have a fire!

Well, seems I have a little bit of not fully dry oak and hazel kindling today…cold start was a bit more stubborn and smoky

Nevertheless, very little smoke in the salon and now roaring up to heat the place.

Our gas oven thermocouple failed last month. I replaced the thermocouple and then the gas valve solenoid failed a week later. Instead of throwing more cash at replacing the oven gas valve, we decided it would be smarter to go with a countertop oven. Well, crikey, the stores here in France are withholding stock to boost prices for Black Friday fake sales and the Moulinex 60L we have chosen is currently unavailable 🤦🏻. To bridge the gap, my missus bought an air fryer and she loves it. Frankly, the air fryer is awesome. My missus has been cooking everything in it: toast, cakes, casseroles, oven fries, anything. So, she has prepared the entire thanksgiving meal in the air fryer and the stove top! Obviously more cooking today. No turkey here, we gonna have duck (confit canard)

But, we have no way to keep the food warm; so the lowly Panadero is going to be today’s food warmer; we’ll be eating right next to the wood stove anyway.

So, the wood:
1 split chestnut/1 split beech
Siberian Elm/white oak/ hazel/ holly kindling on top

Whoops, I guess I didn’t post

Full Loaded with oak and cherry for the night with some cut offs to fill gaps. As expected very hot fire on a bed of coals that was about 175 STT. Currently 730 STT blower on max. Cold and breezy tonight. Starting to feel like winter.

Had a good coal bed, so decided to keep it going overnight, just reloaded with a big slab of oak, knotted piece of ash, and 2 pieces of maple.

Shop’s sitting at 71, with an outside temp of 28. CAT is at 1152, still ramping up and STT at 400. Gonna turn this down low in a few minutes and see how she does overnight.

That big slab wouldn’t fit, so I had to turn it upright… blocking my view!🤣
