Even though it’s pretty full, the CAT only got up to about 1050, sitting around 880 now; prolly the last load for the night.

I added a load of oak and hard maple on top of a nice bed of coals with some beautiful blue flames.

I didn't start a fire until after three today, the wife used the furnace for heat. Most of what I'm burning is smaller ash splits & limb wood.

I did have an overnight fire last night with the same mixture of wood but the house was a little cool, 66.

All ash for tonight. Had a few coals left from this morning but had to get the ball rolling so used some kindling. Down to about 29 tonight. House currently 71. Nice, mellow controllable fire tonight at around 625STT blower on low air not quite all the way closed

Not sure what it is but every time I do a top down it stays nice and mellow but if it lights off the coals fire always runs hot 🤔. Maybe lights more slowly so slower off gassing is the only thing I can think of

Finally through the shoulder-season wood!
If the temp forecasts are accurate, shoulder season will be ending abruptly for you all up there. We will be in and out of shoulder season for the next 10 days.

33 / 64 cold start this morning. Some cut offs and pallet wood to build some coals (top / down) and in a bit looks like oak on top of the pile!

It's gonna be a great day!

Been on the fly since Saturday morning between hunting and traveling. Got home a little after 9:00 last night. Cleaned the glass, removed a little ash, fired up the charcoal & warmed the flue with some kindling & small stuff, and ran a load of cherry and ash overnight. Good sized load of pine and aspen this morning before hunting. Overnight was only down to mid 30's and getting up close to 50 today, so will probably let it go cold until tonight.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 40ish and rainy, then it looks like winter will be here with one day at and one day possibly above freezing in the next month.

RealFeel says -2C/29F

Inside is frigid too, a little bit of solar today, in amongst the rain…salon is 14C and the kitchen is 11.5C

Gotta take some chill off!

My usual 1split chestnut/ 1 split white oak
Kindled top down with oak/ hazel/ elm/ holly/ beech

My last wood paid delivery in 2023, he got my initial order incorrect; he delivered 50cm, not the 40 cm I ordered. So he agreed to swap it…well, he brought a bunch of chestnut and told me it was ash…I didn’t realize. I don’t think he knows what he’s delivering anyhow. Chestnut can appear very similar to oak over here. Never less, I have all this chestnut, so I burn a split or two every fire. Really, that guy ripped me off because chestnut is terrible firewood! I won’t buy from him again and really I should hassle him, but I’ll try not to rock the local boat.

Every bit of wood stocked that I have right now is soooooo dry, there has been zero creo buildup in the firebox so far this year…window staying very clear

Skipped the fire this morning and used the heat pump just to warm things up. Just fired up the Vista for an evening burn. Oak and maple. House 66 on both floors. Getting things warmed up before my better half gets home who likes a warm house 😂

Edit: load burned at 700 STT. House 75 now. Stove 450 STT now with coals so not sure if I will reload tonight.

We have sellers here who short you or tell you they split at 16” and you get 20” pieces that don’t fit in your stove!

Yah I also got nice glass this year.still have not cleaned it since I started burning late October

I’ll take any 20” logs you want to toss my way! 🤣. I’ve been cutting mine 18”, but I think 20” will fit without issue. Heck I tossed a 23” piece in the other day.
My stove takes 18” but optimum size is 16” per pacific energy. 16” also I find seasons quicker being shorter. I do use longer ones diagonally across the top.

Last night since I was tired, I didn't have our usual overnight fire. I set the furnace at 64, that came on at 4 this morning.

Today was a day of burning limb wood, the last load before the overnight load is burning down. Tonight the overnight load will be ash splits.
