Ok so I have gotten permission from the boss aka wife to put a wood stove in IF and ONLY if it is in the basement.... I know not ideal.... so anyway I was looking for recommendations. The basement (unfinished) walls are in the process of being insulated the ceiling is not and will not be. House is a two story 2500sf not counting basement. There is a center staircase that is about 6 feet from front of stove. I was looking at the Enerzone 3.4 or Drolet HT2000. Any insite on either of these? Any suggestions on moving 500lb monsters down bilco door steps? Drolet is less expensive however Enerzone comes with a blower and from a local shop who installs aka takes it down the steps for me for a $300 fee ;-)

Getting them down the stairs is relatively easy. Lots of ways to do it. You can usually take 100+ lbs off the weight by removing the door and the firebricks (note how they went in first!).....
If you have two or more people, a good hand truck with the stair thingys on the back and a strap will do the job.
If you want to do it the slow way, some flat boards and stuff like that will allow you to slide it down (use thin sheet metal or even cardboard to let it slide easier and tie it back to the truck, etc.
In both cases, the friction will slow things down considerably and you will control it.

I put a tow strap around mine and used my atv winch to lower it down the stairs onto a wheeled dolly. Worked slick for me. I refused to pay the delivery fee from the shop I bought the stove at.

I did not have to haul the HT2000 into the basement but I did have to haul it 50' from back of my trailer in driveway then upto the house. I managed to do it bymyself by keeping the stove in the crate. Since the stove is bolted to the crate it was quite easy to slide on a few 2x6 up to the house. WIth hand truck and a little help you should have no problem moving it down the stairs.

Feeling the Heat
I found a local moving company that came to the house and moved mine into the basement for $150. They removed all the weight they could and then picked it up with a strap between 2 guys. Smooth as silk. Oh and it was a clydesdale insert ~550 lbs. without surround, stones and door still had to weigh 400lbs when they moved it. I am a big guy and I have a 17 year old son that is 6'3" and 220 lbs. but I just could not justify the risk of it getting away from us or that one of us could get hurt. The movers said they do these often, so that for me was a no brainer. Make some calls to moving companies.
