In Missouri it is illegal to transport hardwood firewood from any area infested with thousand cankers disease into the state of Missouri. It is also strongly suggested not to transport wood more than 50 miles mostly due to the ash bore.

Not transporting dead and diseased firewood is a very good idea. I mean, I transported some dead ash tree wood 20 miles to my house, but that didn't count because my own ash trees were already infested.
The idea of not transporting over 50 miles is a good idea.

We travelled for several months this past winter staying almost exclusively in State Parks. Every park in every state had strit rules about bringing in any firewood from out of the area.

Numerous problems at home with where we live with tree diseases which are causing major damage to hardwoods (Ash, Maple e.g.) in places. Firewood restrictions make sense.
