36 totes full + some

I'm horrible at posting often. I get too rapped up in work and forget to post my wood hording progress. But hear it is.

This is how I used to stack on pallets and move them with the dingo. These are the first to burn, 17month seasoned, mostly Russian olive and some other wood mixed in.
This is the rest of 13-14 wood, seasoned 17months, 18 totes full.
These 18 totes have been split this summer and will be 14-15 wood.
Hears a broad photo, Hard to get it all in there.. There's a pile to the right by the splitter that will keep growing tell I go get some more totes.

By my estimation/ calculation I think it takes 4 totes to make a cord??

My goal is to figure out how many of these totes I'm going to use per winter, on average.
And to have the whole side from the fence to the shed full of totes double stacked and double deep.

Think I'll have any drying issues stacking these this way?? It's in full sun and loose thrown??

Thats a sweet set up you got there. Yea, it will dry, should not even be a problem. Whats the lift compacity of the dingo?

The owners manual says it will lift 800lbs but I think it will lift more than that. Pat

Looks like a cool setup. How much do those totes cost? If not too much I wouldn't mind doing my wood that way.

I get them for bringing the guy a pickup load of wood about once a year. I cant turn that down.. It saves lots of time not stacking the wood and I get so many odds and ugglies that its just easier to throw it in these bins.. They don't fall over ether. Pat

Pat, you should be fine but the wood would dry a bit better if it were away from the bushes and buildings. That way there would be more and better air circulation and wind will dry the wood much faster than sunshine.

I like the set up, very organized. It almost looks like the wood is taking over whats left of the backyard. Just out of curiosity, are the totes loose filled or stacked? It will probably affect your cord calculations a bit.

Yeah I try to keep those lie locks cut back off the back of the wood crates! And yes they are just loosely thrown in there. Pat

Looks like a neat way to store wood. How does that little forklift do when there is snow on the ground?
Where did you get all those totes BTW?

I'd say 4 totes to a cord is fair estimate.
Very nice clean setup. I guess the Dingo can move the totes to the burning/staging area with ease?
Are these the tote/cages from poly liquid totes? typically they fetch good money or have core/redemption fees but I guess on a occasion the tank gets punctured.
I've seen a really cool tree blind built from one of those liquid totes

The little fork is a toro dingo tx420. Its got the forks, bucket, brush grapple, and brush mower. It's a mini walk behind skid loader. I have yet to get it stuck in snow. I just plow out the heavy snow with the bucket and then it works fine. I get all the totes from a guy who does spray foam insulation and his insulation compounds come in those totes. He just trades me a pick up load of firewood for as many as I want.

I found some on Craigslist but they were 60-75$ a tote.

Yes the dingo moves them fairly well. I just move them up close to that window between the two pallets, and then I have a shoot I just open the window and stick the shoot through the window to a woodbox. And yes the totes are supposed to be expensive but this guy just gives them away. I have seen that same tree blind made out of four stacked totes/cages and that is a very cool tree blind!

I'm pretty sure I got very lucky to find these basically for free! All I've done is trade him some wood maybe two cords for this 36 totes! And he is happier than ever! Now that I think of it I'm not too sure that the chemical that comes in his totes makes it nonrefundable and non-core refundable so to speak!

And I guess the Dingo is part of your actual work, make use of what you already use....did I mention it's a really nice setup?

Russian olive? Isn't that what we call Autumn Olive here in Michigan? How big does it get? It is just a bush for the most part around here - some get pretty big but not much that would need splitting and it would be a bugger to deal with.

Bob, I believe what we have here is also Russian Olive. We see most of it as bushes but it can get pretty big too. I was surprised one day to find one on some state land near here. I had stopped to answer a nature call and as I was standing there I happened to notice the leaf on this tree. Wow! I had not known they would get that big. I have one on our place that is maybe 6" diameter and still pretty bushy.

Hmmm?? Did not know that. Biggest I have seen is down the road from my place and has a bit of a trunk - maybe 6-10" but just one big ole bush and not a tree. I may have to cut some just to give it a try.
