So my wife and I decided we need to invest in a wood insert. She likes the look of a fire so can anyone suggest a model with the largest viewing area? We have a big opening so all suggestions are welcome.

I like the Jotul 450 or 550 with the single door and without the cast-iron decoration in front of the glass...

The new Blaze King inserts have a huge glass, the Hearthstone Clydesdale, and the Lopi Flush inserts also have huge glass. What style are you looking for? Flush, not so flush? Modern or more traditional?

Can you find any pics of those? Its all about the view!

We need more info before suggesting what might be a bad fit. What are the fireplace dimensions (front and back including depth)? How large an area will be heated?

The dimensions are 36 wide & 26 high 22 deep but the back tapers toward the front. The taper begins at 17" and goes to the throat narrowing the depth to 11". Hope that makes sense.

The room is 2 story open loft. 32x24 with 24ft ceilings.

Since it's a rustic cabin style house we are looking at a more traditional flush mount, if possible.

Thanks

The Hearthstone Clydesdale would be a nice fit

Check out the Enviro wood inserts, most of them should fit that opening and they have a decent glass size on them

Harman makes a beautiful insert called the 300i

Big glass, not normal sized glass right? ==c

I got Travis large flush hybrid insert. It has the largest glass I could find. The view of fire is mesmerizing. It has different options for surrounds etc

I can't think of another stove with bigger glass, it and the Clydesdale are very similar in size.Folks that haven't seen either of them in person, just don't realize how big the glass really is.

I have a Clydesdale and though I haven't installed it yet I'm very pleased with the size of my glass. The Jotul 550 is advertised as having the largest viewing glass however, firebox capacity is slightly lower the the Clydesdale.

Well Im back again with more questions. I looked at the specs on some of these stoves and they are outputting 60-70k btu. The room were heating isnt that big but has 24 ft ceilings. 32x24 with 24 ft ceilings.

So now the questions is, those with experience, what has the largest vir=ewling area and can heat that space. The fireplace dimensions aren't an issue. The existing firebox is huge.

I'm heating 2000 sq ft one level ranch with Travis Flush large hybrid insert . It's open floor plan with 3 bedrooms away from stove . It's enough heater for all of it. If you are in a contemporary flash design this is might be the stove for you. That's the only my wife approved , everything else was too " country". Make sure wood is dry and installation is right (insulated liner, block off plate). It's 3 cubic feet stove, so you can fit plenty of fuel. If you don't have dry wood buy bio bricks or such , don't buy " seasoned wood" . It doesn't exist .

The Jotul Oslo has a very big glass. Beautiful view of the fire.

Simonkenton... were close I'm in Burnsville nc. Dimitry, my problem is the height of the ceilings. Here is the layout. 24x32 24 ft ceiling with a 1/2 loft. All glass windows on one side..

What temp ranges do you deal with?

Get the biggest firebox you can get , and you gonna be fine. Travis flush large has 3 cu ft .I have three sectional sliding door , 2 huge bay windows, and about 16 feet cathedral ceiling in big room. Yes, heat is gonna travel up. If you have ceiling fans it will be helpful . i don't , so I use Vortex fan on low settings. Those fans design not to blow air but mix it to eliminate temp difference across the room .
I'm in North east, CT so it can be brutal, but when insert is hot and going I can heat whole house with no problem.

Dmitry, I think our weather is about the same. I'm in NC but at 4000 ft elevation so it get cold. If you dont mind me asking, what did you pay for that insert?

I think around $3500 for insert itself with small surround and regular faceplate . I got liner online and installed it myself

For your size area (roughly 800-900 sqft with 24 feet height), its really 2000-2500 sqft at 8ft ceiling ratings or volume. I'd be looking big, the Clydesdale, and the others mentioned are good choices. Remember stove MFRs ratings are based on 8 foot ceilings.....

So I sprung for the Travis large flush hybrid insert. Install went well except I saw it arc and pop the breaker as soon as it was plugged in. The dealer knew what it may be but I cant remember. great looking insert though

Congrats , I have the same kind. Feel free to start performance thread dedicated to the stove . I feel we have enough people here to chime in . There is always something to learn about the stove and the fire management. BK owners have great one . We don't .

It burns really nice! Just keep a close eye on that catalyst...
