X25 or X27

Going to buy one of these beauties soon and I am looking for suggestions. I am 5'8" tall. Is the X25 the way to go or should I get the 27?

I just split with it over a cord of freshly cut red oak. I think it works great. However for gnarly and stringy wood I prefer hydraulic splitter, but it work outside all day so I am a bit lazy when I get home.

6'1" tall and have the X25. I find it light and fast. It's also good for multi-tasking out in the bush.

Don't get me wrong. It's dangerous but after a few cord it just becomes natural.

I use it for all kind of splitting, ground splits, splitting on a round etc.

The x25 seems a little short to me. But, I'm 6-1. They are both very light and quick compared to a splitting maul.

I got mine from amazon with the sharpening tool and a hatchet. I love the hatchet.

I have the X25 & the 27. When I reach to get one I always grab the 27. More use to it I guess.

I have both. I started with the x25 and it always felt a bit too short compared to the other splitting mauls I also own and was used to. I always felt like the handle was too short and that I was going to hit my toes with it because I had to stand closer to the round being split. I got the x27 after a few months and I haven't even split anything with the the x25 since then. I do bring it in the woodlot when I am cutting down trees because it is light and great for pounding plastic felling wedges. for reference I am 5'10"

Am not sure about that.

The 25 can be used at the neck for kindling and de barking. I held the 27 the other day and it ain't as balanced while choking.

But I might buy a 27 and giver her a crack.

I'm about 5' 8". I'm glad I bought the X27. I think the 25 would be a little too short for me. Also a little too light.

More length equals more speed equals more energy delivered. I've never used the 25, and my 27 is lying out in the woods somewhere...better find it before too many leaves fall or it will be gone forever.

I have both, if I could have only one it would be the X27. It makes a better splitter because of the longer handle.

I have never used the x25. I have the X27 and I really like it. I'm 5'11". As far as using it for smaller kindling stuff, personally, I use an Estwing Fireside Friend 4lb.

X27, I value my feet to much for the X25. I had one and got rid of it and now have 2 - X27's.

I have an X25, and being a bit of a klutz, I won't use it. At 6'1", it's too short and too fast. If everything was always always on a 16" table for splitting, I might feel differently. But sometimes the temptation to get into a swinging frenzy is too hard to resist.

I am 5 4 inches or 1.63 meters. Buy both the 25 and the 27 you will love them. I use the 25 most of the time but use the 27 when I have big stuff to split. You will have to adjust your swing and stance with each axe and the wood will tell you which axe to use. Keep them sharp and wear steel toed boots when splitting.

X27 for me but I don't have the 25. I'm 6'2 and it fits me just fine. Love it

I think I'm the only member on this board who prefers the x25 to the x27. I find it's much easier to be accurate with the shorter handle - more accuracy = less swings. And forget how tall you are because it doesn't make any difference when choosing a handle length. At all. Ever.

Yeah am searching the classified for cheap, hardly used X25's. No luck yet!
