That’s my plan too, house is at 71 equilibrium seems to be met from being out of town the other day. Stove has some coals I’ll let burn down, quick cleanout then off to the races again. Cold, cold and more cold 🥶 on the way.

About 11-1/2hrs on the burn, here’s what was left:

STT was still 240, shops 62… yea, I love hickory and oak. lol

The stove relit instantly with some wrapping paper and log splitter slash. Now it’s back going with some non-oak mystery wood and a piece of maple. I’ll let it burn this load out and then restart it later.

15 degrees with 40mph gusts. Will head out shortly to start cleaning up the 7 1/2" of snow. Wet and heavy on the bottom, lighter on top. Last night's load of cherry and white ash kept the house at 69 this morning with good coals. Load of pine, aspen and black ash going currently.

2nd load just downed the dragon's gullet since i got up early this morning. This load is a few small ash, small red oaks, and a couple larger oak splits. Just to maintain some heat in the house and kill the chill. Not cold out.....yet. Just a cool dampness from the cold rain showers. It's 37* now and expected to get cold tonight, followed by several days.

Luckily, before the snow, I put a good load of splits down the stairs to the lair. I'll be loading again in a couple days after the winds have a chance to do some magic to the wood piles.

Well, after over a weeks I had to light the rock back up. It's been 60 when I wake up headed to 70 everyday so hadn't needed the girl. It was 47 and falling fast this morning. Low 30s now and windy. Headed into the teens tonight.

Pine bringing the girl up to temp and I have to say it feels good.

Stay warm yall.

It was warm enough last night that we didn't have an overnight fire, it was still 66 & 67 up here this morning. The first fire this morning was some junk birch, I just started the second fire with some better junk birch, the beech will get used next.

On Christmas day, I called my uncle. As the conversation went on he says, ''It's 80* here." I answered with, ''It's 8* here.''
He replied with, ''I remember those days."

He lives in TX now, but born and raised up north where @thewoodlands calls home. I was born up there too.

Your weather is here today messing up our snowpack 😜 still about 4” out there as of now with freezing temps the next few days it’s going to turn hard as a rock!

Loves me beech.

I've got only 6, but good sized, splits left. I'm saving them as long as possible, for really cold days. So dry and takes off so well....great for cold starts, while igniting other species and getting the fire box up to temp fast.

There's junk and better junk
🤣

Stove cleaned out and ready for the overnight. Been running the mini splits as needed in bedrooms. Still 70 in main rooms from last nights.
Nice Tetris!

After a day of mini split, the wind is howling here now.
39 outside and dropping.
Started the fire.
This is 4.5 years old wood, under a roof.
The slab on top is oak.
After all this time, it's pissing water. Been a long time that I saw that but it bugs me...

I hear ya.

I admit. I had one red oak 3x3'' split spew a pee sixed bubble today. It only lasted for a minute or so. It still makes me think. ''What a waste of wood. And, good heat up the chimney.''

Maybe just surface moisture. It’s been very cold out and today was warm and very damp. Can just be condensate of sorts. A split that size under cover has to be dry in 4.5 years.

It's been in my garage for a week or so, after the shed.
The garage is concrete and not heated, so not really dry, but I don't think that's it - everything I burn comes from my garage.

I agree with this. I think, with red oak grain being like a straw, if the moisture was inside it would bubble upon being boiled out.

Gotcha. I still doubt it’s deep seated moisture working its way out though.

Good thing it was during start up. I just left the bypass open until it dried up.
