Seeking advice on new stove BK Soricco vs HT3000

Hi All,

Current stove drolet escape 1800. Runs 24/7 after Oct30 till spring. 12 hour loading cycle, never need to light fire, just load onto coals . I burn 95% maple 5% birch. I want more heat on the down slope between 4am-8am.

Considering these stoves:
Blaze king sirocco 30 - $4848 cdn
Drolet ht3000 - $2400 cdn

If the ht3000 will get me 30% more glowing coals in the morning, it would prob be enough to keep the electric heat to a minimum.

Then again the BK Sirocco has that nice flat heat curve.

Can anyone give me their experience with the amount of heat remaining after an overnight burn in the ht3000?

Check past reviews of the HT3000 in the SBI forum section and in the Ratings. I'd also look at the Osburn 3500 (Drolet Escape 2100) for slightly more capacity than the HT3000.

I’d go with the sirocco or if it’s in the cards maybe the Woodstock ideal steel if you can get one. You’ll have way more control with the bk especially in the milder days where you wont heat yourself out.

I would not expect 30% more coals from a bigger noncat. Instead, the larger stove will just make 30% more heat in the same time. That might work out since you’ll just overheat the space more in the beginning so that by morning the house is still warm enough.

For full time heating I upgraded from a modern noncat to a BK princess about 14 seasons ago. The 30 hour burn time rating is real (24 with our pnw fuel) and the output is relatively constant the whole time. This is the whole reason for the upgrade. Long burn times and steady heat output make wood heating much more pleasant. Another benefit is much lower wood consumption.

Be warned, the BK requires 15’ of flue. If you could get 12 hours out of that drolet 1800 then you’re really going to like a BK.

I think my mind is now set on the BK. Main reason is that the escape 1800 is on the warm end of comfortable, 30% more heat would probably be too much.

I did think about the ideal steel but it would be same price as the BK after delivery and duties. If there was an issue with the stove I’d like to deal locally.

Well I went in to look at the Sirocco and pulled the trigger on the Princess 32. Being delivered next week.

Found it hard to pay $5357 for a stove, ouch. I keep telling myself it will pay for itself in the next 20 years .

Yeah it is rough I got the ashford 30 in enamel brown just about 2 years ago and it was like 6300ish but they were running 0 percent financing so I took advantage of that rather than shell it out at once

I have the osburn 3300 but sadly they do not make it anymore,that said with a 3.3 firebox I get 9 hours on pine.

Yeah it’s a shame they don’t as well as it seems the big pacific energy stoves aren’t the same the fireboxes are smaller it seems as they are listed now at 2.5 cuft versus the 3 they used to be I’m guessing due to updates to meet the epa standards

It's actually been this way all along. But for bragging rights in marketing, stove marketers went with the full firebox volume, including above the baffle, instead of the actual usable volume. If your competitors were doing this, then you needed to do the same.

Now, with the new regs, the EPA testing labs started reporting the actual usable firebox dimensions because this was part of their calculations. With this number now exposed in the testing docs, manufacturers started reporting the actual usable size of the firebox. It's a dramatic difference in some cases. For example:
