Still not too cold here; hovering at freezing
Snow is forecast for tomorrow and early week and then rain…so I gotta get out and collect some of dead dry I got in a couple piles outside

We have glorious sun and no wind …but the freezing wet coming right up…I wanna fortify

So, to save on electricity I just lit the Panadero

1 chestnut/ 1 oak
Elm/Oak/poplar/ hazel on top

You've come full circle with "The little train that could."
Congrats on your little stove's adventure. You have her burning well for a little train.

It sounds like it’s been a rough couple months between work, the house now the GF. Stay strong my wood burning brother.
Thanks brother I appreciate you.

In fact, I appreciate all the support you've all shown me. It means more than I can describe.
I'm an old soul. I am a survivor. I take all that's thrown onto me with stride. Even when knocked down, I stand right back up.
Tis my nature. My father taught me well.

This is somewhat a blessing. When the dust settles, and all is said and done, there are 8 bedrooms upstairs. With a 2nd floor that's easily secured from the 1st, that's a lot of weekly room rentals. $80 ea for 6 of them and $50 ea for the 2 smaller rooms. I'll be sitting a lot more comfortable. There's a big room downstairs to be converted back into 2 again. A guest room and a live in maid's room. And across the driveway sits my occupied little rental house.

My only felt loss will be the absence of 3 of the 4 dogs. I'll miss them. They're innocent in all of this.

Never got around to posting yesterday or today. Had to work yesterday and had a busy day.

Before I left I loaded 4 big chunks of oak with cut offs.

This morning was a mix of oak, ash and a little hickory along with some cut offs. I shoveled out some ash and cleaned the glass quick before loading up this morning.

Fell to slumber 1am after feeding the dragon. Got up half hour ago for her cries through a cold house. Probably in the high 50s.
It's all good. I needed to catchup on some sleep. Single digits expected to night. The dragon and I will be dancing while the festivals of
oaks, locusts, and the mixed hardwoods continue.

It's just me now. #nmGFa.
Sorry to hear about that my friend! 😔

29 outside, 69 upstairs.
Yesterday's 10.15 pm load is done, so 16.5 hrs.
A few slightly punky maple uglies for now on the coals.

Looks like we're finally going to get some snow and temps above 20F for the first time in over a month. Currently 15F/70F. I recently modified the primary air on my Jotul 602 and have been successfully getting longer burns with softer heat. Spruce is keeping the fire well fed and substantially cheaper than fuel oil.

Temps are dropping, more oak in the dragon. This time I pushed some coals back to the exhaust at the floor. I had to spread them out. I don't like to do that. Fly ash builds up in the 5' of horizontal pipe. 2 mons ago I cleaned out a lil better than half gallon containers worth.

22 with a real of 17. Our low is forecasted for 14 now. It was previously for single digits.

We've been burning Beech & Ironwood with all the cold weather we've been having,
How are you my friend? You've been on the quiet side.
I miss your posts.

I’ve been slacking on my normal picture taking but tonight I have a nice load of hard maple and red oak in. I over did it on the spruce load this am and wasn’t able to get as much as I wanted in due do a hefty coal bed but it will be more than fine for tonight.

I've been good but not posting like I once did. This winter we've seen our share of snow and cold, when I come in from plowing I spend time in the stove room (basement) warming my feet up and not getting on the computer much.

I do plan on some saw work on the house lot once mother nature gives us a break. I'm glad we don't live south of Watertown NY, places in that area received 4 feet of snow pretty quick.

Yes, we're having a real winter again indeed. Haven't seen one like this in years.
Makes me long for my birth town and Christmases past. My fondest memories from childhood.
Stay warm. :)

That we'll do. I was just talking to a cousin about the winters when we grew up, his father had a farm so we were always down there, good times. In the summer we always thought we were quicker than the electric fence, I can still feel that going up my arm. My uncle was very good at getting us to believe the fence was off, he was undefeated while we felt the wrath of the fence!

Outside is 30, going down to 23 by tomorrow morning.
The bit of punky and ugly maple is done. Oak on the menu.
Upstairs is 70

It seems that later this week I'll be using the mini split, so I'm waiting to clean out some ashes until the stove goes cold.

Our temperature is 19 and rising currently, then will drop a little between 4am and 7am, then we'll get slightly above freezing tomorrow afternoon. We are under what seems like a pointless weather advisory. Got some ash out this afternoon. Load of cherry and white ash going now for overnight. This week we have highs in the 30's and maybe even 40 through Friday, then the cold comes back again...

The outside temp is -1 tonight with NOAA saying we'll have a low of -10. The basement temp is starting off at 77, the living room is 70 with the sleeper at 69. The overnight load is all beech.

Above the lair the dragon's breath is felt, tickling the air.
A recent helping of red oak splits, a white or two, and a hint of honey flanked with black locusts.
Gobbling she is as wintery fingers are chased away.

This should carry me through to 4am or so. I'd go back to sleep but, now my mind spins from my recent visit in the lair.
18* out with a real of 15. A few more degrees to drop. I hope it warms quickly in the morning. I have a day's work ahead.
