Well, the stove was installed in 2016 and it doesn’t owe us anything. My health has deteriorated substantially over the last few years and we plan to use the stove only for emergencies. This year may be the last year we burn wood. I personally would like to replace this stove with one that has an higher opening, perhaps with a top loader with a rear vent.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for all replies.
I don’t have any stove advice for you, but my condolences to you for your health issues, stay strong my friend.

Sorry to hear about the health problems. I hope they improve.
If possible, maybe just make sure the current system is in good, safe operating condition for now? The only new top loaders on the market are VC stoves which are more complicated and potentially fussy to run than the PH. They are also expensive. Would raising the hearth be an option? A raised, metal platform could provide this function. Or perhaps consider a stove like the Drolet Deco Nano or Deco II for a bit taller stove?

We could remove a connector which would raise the stove approximately five inches. This would connect the 90 directly to the stove.
Alternatively, a stove with a rear 6” vent connection might give me the ability to raise the height 13”-15”, then a stove-top to ceiling height clearance might be a concern. I think the ceiling is at 96”/8’.

Going to a 90º right off of the flue collar is not a great setup for a top-vented, but it can work sometimes if the draft is strong, though there may be some smoke spillage. There are some rear vent options that can work. Most are catalytic-hybrid front or side loaders from Woodstock, Jotul, Hearthstone.
