just purchased a house with a Vermont castings 1977 stamped vigilant wood burning stove. From what I can tell its in working order. Previous owner used it.

Seals seam to be good (dollar test), no seam leaks i can find. I do see a small gap between the flue and collar that connects the pipe to the stove, but it looks to be due to the crimping.

There are 2 parts that I can't seem to figure out where they go (images attached). One looks like a handle of some sort, and the other looks like it should fit in the front of the stove as pictured. However, it interferes with the doors closing/sealing on the stove in that position. This piece is stamped 11/24/83.

Thanks for the help!

You have the "Fettle" &it goes where you have it placed.
It may be a tad distorted after years of use, causing interference
with the doors...
The smallr part is a "Griddle Quadrant" & attaches underneath the griddle on the stove top.
There should be two of them.

Thanks for getting back to me. I took a picture of the griddle, where is the quadrant suppose to attach?

Guna fire it up for the first time today. Finally cold enough to get a decent draft.

Yes so it works like a hinge for your top loading door.

Yes just realized that. Only allows the door to be fully open and stay open when the damper is open. If damper is closed you can't fully open the door.

1 side has the bolt sheered off so thats why the previous owner must not have installed it.

Thanks for the help!

don't need a new griddle. just work on removing the broken bolt shaft, or carefully drill it out.
